It's a great movie with style, good acting and fabulous directing. Characters, are just amazing (except Lord Blackwood of course, too vampiry for my taste). Most of all, it has a perfect style. A must watch.

how do you ruin a great movie classic? elementary watson, you make an overlong version with a really dark and worse yet boring plot, you change the title character so he no longer even closely resembles himself and.....you waste alot of talented actors in the meantime.......big thumbs down!

Enjoyable but average. Downey Jr. was born to play Holmes, and Ritchie's otherwise pathetic action upgrade of the iconic detective works surprisingly well. Still some scenes should have been left for extra material, and there's too much "follow me around the room" without giving the audience a chance to guess along. Still, it's a fun ride. Consider it the best McDonalds meal ever: You'll be content as you leave the restaurant, burb once and be hungry for something else...

This is not the Sherlock Holmes I know. The Holmes I know was naturally eccentric and astute. But the Holmes we get from Guy Ritchie's adaptation seemed like a cartoonish action star whose wittiness seemed forced. It is not Downey's fault, though. In fact, it is his charisma that keeps this film interesting and prevents it from becoming a total disaster. A passable, lightweight entertainment. But I was hoping for something more and I didn't get it.

The performances were the only thing I liked about this movie. The rest just gave me a headache. Slow motion explosions, weird crunchy fight scenes, and I barely understood what was going on with the story other than some mystical mumbo-jumbo. Also, did they overuse the raven symbolism a ton or what?

There have been many re-tellings and re-imaginings of Sir Arthur's stories and characters however this is one of the few that stand out, the mystery although not very original is still quite interesting, and the acting by Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law is brilliant. All in all this makes for a great film, it will surely keep you entertained. Highly Recommended.

Witty, sharp dialogue, well-crafted and -paced action and the neverending brilliance of Downey Jr. makes this quite an entertaining ride. Forgotten the second you leave the cinema though, obviously

"Hey lets make a movie about Sherlock Holmes!" "Yeah, and he has to smoke the pipe a lot, because you know, he does that." "Great idea! But no boring investigator that has to uncover a complex plot, no one will watch that crap! Lets make him a boxer and do a lot of mindless fighting." "Wow, you're a GENIUS! Also we need to add a lot mysticism and fantasy, this world is much too stale." "I can already see the action-packed trailers, originality is overrated anyways! And don't forget all the CGI."

Great almost-steam-punk setting, nice directing by Guy Ritchie. Very entertaining movie. Good chemistry between Law and Downey. However it's not a movie about Sherlock Holmes, or Dr. Watson, or Deduction crime solving at all. Feels like a prologue. Feels like Batman meets Pirates of the Caribean and Iron Man in steam-punkish London.

Its not your typical Sherlock Holmes movie. The first half is full of action and boring nonsense. The last half comes through with typical Sherlock Holmes analysis and detective work. If you are looking for a run of the mill Sherlock Holmes movies, this is not it. From the looks of it, there will be a sequel.

It's mainly RDJ (and partially Jude Law's chemistry with him) who elevates this just slightly above a throwaway big-budget blockbuster. The plot was sorely lacking in creativity (all the required evidence seemed to come from a single room???), but Ritchie adds just enough verve to each scene to turn it into a harmless and fun ride. Just don't go in expecting the next great Mystery - a treatment that I would have much preferred seeing applied to the revamp of such an iconic character.

This movie has its own presentation, it would disappoint any true Sherlock Holmes fan. The attitude of Sherlock Holmes doesnt portray the one presented in the books. Guess this is Guy Ritchie's take on Sherlock Holmes. The movie is stylish and doesnt focus on the detail that books focus on. The ending setups the sequel. Over all the movie is entertaining but not great. Watch this if you want to see a stylish flick.

Enjoyed the 'thought-out' fight scenes, works well with a Sherlock Holmes film. It mixed black magic, science, and the TV show Psyche type observations to form a unique blockbuster. Off-topic - anyone else thought Mark Strong was Andy Garcia for a while?

The biggest weakness is not really knowing and therefore caring about what the main Macguffin is. Apart from that, Sherlock Holmes is solid blockbuster entertainment. London looks nicely grimy, Holmes is an interesting change from the sober gentleman you'd expect, action and humor are nicely mixed and the music is surprisingly good.
