There's a good cast and some fine atmosphere in this adaptation of Conan Doyle's "The Musgrave Ritual." Peter Lawford has a bit part.

Not bad, for a low budget effort. Neill directs well, with real noir flavor.

After a shaky start, this is an enjoyable mystery whose very short running time means it never drags on but still allows for some small moments of enjoyable detail. After seeing two of the films from this particular Sherlock Holmes series, I'm really starting to like Basil Rathbone's take on the character.

A stiffish War time Sherlock Holmes adaptation. They fit in one concentration camp mention and a pathetic ending speech. The drunk butler was only character who's got room to relax.

Plot doesn't make a lick of sense, even by Holmes' own reasoning, but it's so outlandish that it makes for an intriguing mystery. Basil sells it all better than anyone.

The acting is pretty grating and the mystery while not bad is not that great. It's hampered by the fact that Holmes' detective work looks really silly. The ending after the mystery is solved is pretty stupid and Holmes' speech is completely out of place.

Not bad at all, except for the odd little speech at the end. I suppose it was for patriotism and all that, but it's still jarring. Holmes doesn't ever talk like that in the stories.
