If one can overlook how out of character Holmes, the setting and the storyline, this can still be a relatively curious film to watch.

The denouement is rather disappointingly simple (although it does fit the tone of the original Holmes stories), but the real value here is in Everett's strung-out genius. The drug references are perhaps slightly overplayed, but all in all it's a fresh -- and extremely welcome -- look at an overly familiar face.

Disappointment. Expecting a better movie.
