Trying to get a political and moral statement in a movie where the goodguy kills around 87 people, doesn't even looks back while a gas tank explodes and heals his wounds with sugar water ?? I don't know, seems somewhat off.

This is a revenge fantasy for those whose dislike of Dick Cheney has a homicidal tint, and as such it is a more or less pro-assassination romp. In spite of these advantages, it suffers from weak characterisation and some very poor dialogue, in particular some extremely silly bad-guy-speechifying, and the whole thing descends further and further into a pit of absurdity from which no escape is to be found. Occasional well-photographed shots of attractive landscape fail to redeem the mess.

One of the better action movies out there that certainly reflects the changing opinion of the current US government. It's entertaining on an action movie level, to be certain. However, it strives to make a very strong point which ends up being presented by characters that lack even a remote amount of subtlety thus the point is presented so obviously it's disappointing. Still, it works quite well on an action movie level.

Marky Mark plays a retired sniper who the government sets up to take the fall for a high profile assassination, but gets away and kills dozens of dudes in revenge. I went into this flick expecting something with more of a Bourne Identity vibe, and was going to shit all over Shooter until I realized that it's essentially just a humorless remake of a cheesy 80's action flick - Rambo for the 2000's. Heads are shot off and lots of stuff blows up, and it's all OK, but none of it is any fun.

Shooter is about as dull as I wouldn't have expected it to be. Mark Wahlberg is the biggest problem. Too bad after his recent Oscar nomination, he has to take a few steps back. His delivery of dialogue here is so mumbly that it's actually hard to understand him. The plot is a little goofy, a little obvious, and a little confusing. The movie also doesn't have much of a pulse. It's two hours long and not much happens for long stretches.

It's really not as bad as people say. It's incredibly dumb and we've seen it all before but I can't deny the fact that it was entertaining on some level. They also explain everything in the worst way possible except for the most glaring issue: what the hell is with Danny Glover and his lisp?

Precisely what makes Shooter so bad is that the premise, had it been done by more talented people, could have made for some great popcorn action thriller junk food. Instead we get an uninspired and totally preposterous movie. It's not like I expect high art from this type of film, I just hope for some level of competency. Was this really directed by the guy who did Training Day?

The plot plays off many other different conspiracy films, while the characters have one note that they sing until either the film, or their lives come to an end. The characters are acted out well, but since they don't really have much depth or development, that doesn't really save the film. What does save Shooter is the action scenes. The film's pacing is fine, with everything moving at a quick pace, and the action rarely letting up. It is enjoyable, so I would give it a watch.

Terrible. Sick story, badly told, badly written, badly acted. I liked the exagerated self-hatred towards USA with references to Abu Ghraib and other such scandals, and that the russian villain had both the same limb and the same accent as Dr. Strangelove. Those were fun parts put into a swamp of filmic incompetence.

Shooter suffers the double indignity of being both underwritten to the point of incredulity and too po-faced to make light of its silliness. Aside from the terrible screenplay, there's nothing completely egregious, but that doesn't make it worth watching. One of those films that you end up wishing was a lot worse to at least provide some dubious entertainment value, but alas, it's just by the book mediocrity. A complete waste of time for cast, crew and audience.

Some curious decisions, to be sure. Did no one suspect that involvement in a thriller might be hindered by laughter at the protagonist's name? I know it's a pre-existing property, but Bob Lee Swagger? A female newscaster asserting that there is "no sign of Swagger to be found"? Anyway the lefty conspiracist thing was kind of a hoot, with Levon helmself as some off-grid gun-head Mr. X type with talking points by Ralph Nader. To boast that and still be bad is some real corporate irresponsibility.

Shooter is a smart, simple and clever conspiracy thriller with high-voltage action and nice marksman bullet-battles, along with a questionable moral concerning our US government. Mark Wahlberg is a badass here, and he actually instead of bringing the movie down to the dust, raises it up into something better. Plus, who can resist staring at all the weapons he uses in his control? Fantastic.

A pretty stupid movie. Predictable, cliche and catered to stupid people. I hate movies where the "bad guys" have to go all-out to make sure the audience knows they're a "bad guy". We get it - they're bad guys. You don't need to give them a sinister Dr. Evil-esque laugh to make the point. Moo-hoo-ha-ha-ha. Yeeech.
