Scorsese and creepy are not a natural couple, but for this time it worked just fine. Especially the the middle of the film was exceptional for the feeling of paranoia and isolation it evoked. I would rather have it end up as the paranoia that was real than the real paranoia though.

I saw Shutter Island in theatres twice. A visual masterpiece, and I was quite taken with the story the first time. The second time I found the story did not hold up quite as well, it has many flaws, however it remains a striking film definitely worth a watch.

Lost me at the anagrams.

Try and describe this film to someone and you'll fall flat. This shouldn't work at all: it's predictable in its unpredictability, you know nothing's as it seems and once again we're subjected to Leonardo Di Caprio who still seems to look like a child made up as a man. However, it's brilliantly shot and is very genuinely disturbing in a way that few films of its ilk can match.

Blew. My. Mind.

Visually interesting, great atmosphere, good acting and a nice score. What it has in technical excellence is let down a little by a story that, while engaging and well told, isn't that remarkable or original. In a lot of films this wouldn't matter too much but the mystery aspect is so heavily sold to the viewer that it ends up being the most important part of the film and subsequently the most relevant part to a review.

I quite enjoyed this, although there is no denying that it is not a great film. I predicted the plot twist from the trailer if I'm being honest, and you probably would have if I hadn't just told you that. However, there is still something enjoyable about the film, and I guess I would say that for those simply looking for an edgy, stylish thriller there is plenty worth watching in shutter island. Dumb, but mildly enjoyable.
