Summary: Four tales of crime focusing around a muscular brute who's looking for the person responsible for the death of his beloved Goldie; a man fed up with Sin City's corrupt law enforcement who takes the law into his own hands after a horrible mistake; a cop who risks his life to protect a girl from a deformed pedophile; and a hitman looking to make a little cash.
Style Style Style. Ripped almost entirely from the comic stills, this is Frank Millers work from ink to reel. Casting was perfect; it seemed as if Miller had the actors in mind as he was writing the comic. Any other comic book - movie conversion should take notes from this movie.
If you're a fan of A) The Sin City comics, B) Off-beat action films that don't take themselves too seriously, C) ridiculous amounts of violence and gore, D) Robert Rodriguez, or E) film noir, this film's for you. It's a direct translation of the comic - take that as you will - and is an entertaining journey into Frank Miller's twisted Sin City. It's definitely not for everyone, though, so I'd recommend this as a rent-it-before-you-buy-it. Be warned that the acting is by no means stellar,
it's hard to rate this...on one level I feel it failed on certain thematic levels as an adaptation...but on another level it's about time someone dared to take a comic adaptation to this visual extreme and it's beautiful, brings tears :'-)
I really wanted to like this, but it was too fucking sexist. Hookers with hearts of gold! Bomb ass strippers twirling on poles! A dragon lady, for fuck's sake! You've got to be kidding me. But it is a comic book movie, after all.
This film combines four of my favourite things into one: Film Noir, Comic Books, Stylish Visuals, Incredible Action. I'm hard-pressed to find a film that does as much.
