This movie is like the Pyramids of Giza. I admire the the technical amount of work required to pull it off, while at the same time shuddering at the amount of human suffering that must have gone into it, and at the utter pointlessness of the end result. Every joke sounds like it has been rehearsed too many times. Every smile is a bit too big. Every dance number comes off perfectionistic and completely unspontaneous - the opposite of the desired effect, I think. I did not enjoy this movie at all.
What a cute movie. So much romance and the choreography is outstanding though sometimes it drags on a bit too long. I love the song Singing in the Rain, it makes me very happy. Bravo bravo!
The best part isn't even the numbers, but the cinematography and colors. Moving the camera in and out on that set with all the Casino lights...amazing. I liked it quite a bit and imagine I would've even moreso if I was into this kind of fruity fare.
This is so adoring and lovely that it's easy to love it. That's why the movie has aged so well through more than half century, with stunning acting and spectacular scenes. There is no feel good movie better than Singin' in the Rain.
Good story, good songs, good characters, colour, lights, music, dance... This movie has probably everything a good musical should have, it's an interesting story about the death of silent movies and the birth of a new genre, and has one of the best (if not the best, I'm not that much into dancing) dancers ever. Gene Kelly doesn't even walk like normal people. If it wasn't 1952 I would bet Gene Kelly is CG, because he has to be breaking some physic laws while dancing.
I've seen this flick last time when we've got B&W tv at home. That must be 70-something. I just adore the quick dancing scenes when guys do it together or in solo. All drama and sentimental scenes did not work much for me. Okay, the idea of the story was good and Jean Hagen's high pitch voice, but there was too much of sentimental values I did not fancy. The classical singin' in the rain scene was of course neat.
I'm not as impressed as others, but it is still a great musical. Too bad that it didn't avoid some overacting (most of time, the acting is great, but it slips a little too often) and some musical numbers were dragging for waaaaaaaaaaaay too long and became annoying. However, it is very well-made, funny and clever. I liked it more than I expected.
I don't know what to do with this. I like the story a lot. It's a 10. But, I hate all the songs. I'm convinced "Good Mornin'" is playing on a continuous loop in Hell. I know it's a sacrilege amongst film buffs to dislike this one, but I can't score this any higher.
