A great story about the people's hero Mantle and the shy Maris. The people only wanted one hero!

Poetic that this would be the score to give this flick. Faithful, but not particularly good.

The day the World Series is won is one of my favourite days of the year, as it marks the end of baseball highlights on the sportscast. Yes, I intensely dislike baseball, but give full credit to Billy Crystal and this movie. It's clearly a labour of love, and makes for one of the better sports movies I've seen. Pepper gives a tremendous performance as Maris, and Jane is quite good as well. The only downside is watching that douchebag Mark McGwire break the record. Seriously. What a douche.

Surprisingly good

Could have been better, some goofy transitions of scenes makes it have that "Made for TV Movie" feel, but Pepper's performance keeps one interested.

OK, was hoping for more.

Barry Pepper is phenomenal.

Formulaic dramatization about one of the greatest anti-climaxes of sports history. Elevated by an outstanding performance from Pepper.

Let me begin by saying I have absolutely no respect for baseball. NONE. However, there is no denying that this (more than 2 hour movie) will catch even the most skeptical viewer's attention. The story of Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle is quite fascinating; and the movie is very educational.
