Objectively worthless, apart from having decent effects and a mercifully high pace. As a fan of sci-fi I was more or less entertained throughout but the movie's main "strength" lies in its trashiness - if you enjoy that sort of thing.

It's a shame that so much went wrong with this movie, because I feel like they had a fairly good plot idea and a decent special effects team. Seriously, I can't shake the idea that there was one competent writer in this crew, who was negated by whoever came up with the dialog, the unlikable characters, and the horrifyingly bad, tacked-on ending (massacring the possibly great depressing conclusion). This would probably be 20 points higher if you ended the movie 2 minutes earlier.

If you were on the effects team, raise your hand. OK everybody else, you are banished from Hollywood. That includes you, director of photography, a few too many cityscapes. And if your camera can't handle low light, don't shoot in it. That includes you, script-writers, way to make your characters reliably choose the dumbest course of action. And what was that tacked on "ending"? That includes you, studio execs, because your verdict on greenlighting this was the drug test, you failed.

Much better than expected, which, indicated by my score, doesn't help it much. It is undoubtedly amateur hour, but at least it's briskly paced; the one thing B-movies like this usually fail to achieve. And if it hadn't been for the Directors' crime against humanity (AvP:Requiem) I probably would have been less negative. But... I don't forget and I never forgive.

A serviceable, if derivative, alien invasion movie, with a few things going for it. The first is the defeatist attitude of the whole thing; it's nice to watch an invasion where the humans are overwhelmed by alien technology, with no deus ex machinas to save them. And second, the subtext concerning the humans being literally attacked by the very concept of Special Effects - bright shiny lights drawing humans to their dooms, as aliens then remove their brains. That's some funny shit.

Too many people have been overly critical of this movie, it turns out to be a pretty decent popcorn flick with a completely ludicrous ending with the Strause brothers making a mad dash segue for the obviously planned sequel. The result is unnatural and distasteful. point being, if you stop the movie with about five minutes left you'll probably enjoy it.

A fascinating, reflexive narrative-essay on the use of CGI in Hollywood. Is it full of genre cheesiness? Of course, but it's not meant to just be watched, but to be read, as is almost every line of its purposefully spoken dialogue. Does it make use of iconic scifi-film designs? Only to bring their history into its discussion. Hear it out, and the CGI will seem almost heartfelt. (The brain-theft is almost a bit too on-the-nose, though.)

Has pretty much no redeeming qualities. All of the characters are unlikable, and we're only expected to care about the main couple because the woman is pregnant. That's a really cheap tactic to get the audience on your side. The plot goes nowhere, nothing has any consequence for the story, and it's basically a series of disposable characters getting killed by a series of disposable special effects. Unfortunately, it's not even worth watching for the cheesiness factor. A thoroughly poor movie.

Well... This is 90 minutes of my life I will never get back again! And I join the voices of the "They didn't just end the film this way did they?" choir... How come there isnt just one guy in the whole writing, producing, directing, editing process who has stood up and wondered "What the F are we doing?" That a movie like this can get a theatrical release amazes me!!!

Anyone else think the smaller aliens looked like flying vaginas? At one point one of the protagonists ripped something smallish out of the upper portion of one. Looked painful. Anyway there was no plot in this, so maybe these observations are just a result of my mind wandering ... in the general direction of the gutter.

A showreel accidentially released as a movie, ripping off the tutorials from videocopilot.net, and mixing the squids from 'The Matrix' with the spacesuits from 'Independence Day', with elements from 'War of the Worlds'. Decent effects, seen many times before. You've probably already guessed why you don't know the actors (and never will), but with this 'script' you don't need those anyway. I suppose there is something to be said for introducing the concept of zombie aliens.. No. No there isn't.

Impressive if only for the fact it was made for $10 million dollars. The special effects aren't great but are certainly better than movies that have been made for more. A somewhat interesting (and frankly overt) subtext is bludgeoned into mediocrity by its other painfully average qualities. The actors aren't having any fun with such ridiculous material, and the pacing is awkward to the degree that by the time the epilogue occurs, it feels criminally out of place. It's standard fare borne of a far more interesting concept.

The premise for this movie under a talented filmmaker's hand could have been a very tense sci-fi thriller. Instead it's incredibly boring. The acting and script are terrible, the movie is about as subtle as a hammer, and the ending could have been decent until they added 5 more minutes and turned it into something completely awful. One to avoid.

Every scene that doesn't involve CGI is sufferable. But it as some amateurish appeal. POV from a group of friends shows an alien invasion that has no apparent reason - we only know they are here to steal our brains. Final so weird it actually delivers - Jarrod's brain is put on alien and he saves his pregnant wife, facing his colleagues before the end. The amount of stupid stuff is impressive - the rich dude who betrays his girl dying with his affair, Jarrod killing an alien with his bare hands.

Tragic, because we've got some good foundations here: great special effects, really 'alien' aliens, and a dark, disturbing concept (aliens show up, harvest humanity to use our brains as CPUs, we lose, no contest, the end). But its all ruined by the terrible small scale plot and action. Its nothing but a bunch of annoying, mediocre actors running around an apartment building being killed and then a hideously out-of-tone 'hope spot' color-coded ending.

While a terrible, stupid movie, definitely doesn't deserve a 0 like Criticker says. Terrible, cardboard cutout, unlikable stupid characters propel this from being a stupid sci-fi b-movie to being completely worthless sci-fi schlock. The special effects were pretty good and is just about the only reason this movie got this score because otherwise there's nothing redeeming about it, including the terrible "TWIST" about why the robot alien bug things are here on Earth in the first place.

Okay, so... yeah. Looked pretty, was forgivably wonky for about the first 40-ish minutes. I thought the first 15 minutes were kinda throw-away but that's minor. Once we were introduced to "angry Mexican landlord", however, the wonk was too much to handle. This dude has a serious "pushing-people-up-against-the-wall" problem. I found there to be too many plot points brought up that were then totally abandoned sans resolution. Also, FUCK..THAT..ENDING! Honestly. What the FUCK were they thinking????

As horrendously bad as some make out? Well maybe not quite. But it's still pretty dire. The script & plot are almost most too terrible to express in words, & the acting laughable. There are (unbelievably) one or two nice shots, but each one seems tempered by a terrible shot seconds afterwards. For $10m I can forgive some shitiness, but this movie throws shit at you like a hyperactive monkey in a zoo. Also the telescope hugging, speech impaired, goaty beard wearing prick was annoying.

The actors are there, the special effects are good, at the beginning there were all the pieces that should have resulted in a passably decent movie, but letting the special effects supervisor write the story was pure poison. To Joshua Cordes: you are not a writer, you will never be a writer and this movie is shit purely because you decided to save .01 percent of your effects budget by not hiring one.

I actually enjoyed this movie a lot more than I expected to. It's a perfectly solid little C-movie sci fi. It's got a few neat ideas, shiny effects, and there aren't many alien invasion movies from the point of view of the nobody civilian. Laughably bad. It seems to pull off just about every cliche in the alien invasion genre possible and you can pretty much predict everything that was going to happen in it. Hell, you could make a drinking game whenever someone did something that didn't make sense or was stupid. Not even the special effects are all the impressive because this is the sort of shit we've seen a billion times already... and better! To its credit, though, there is unintentional humor to be had in its stupidity.

Theory: The character played by Zayas was taking anger management, it got cancelled because of aliens, and he was angry cuz of it... that's how I explain his needless aggression. Awful character. The rest of the movie was actually decent... the first half an hour/40 mins was good then it got a little wonky. That would have been forgiven if the ending wasn't one of the worst endings ever. Wild and interesting science fiction fantasy on the theme of alien invasion. No other intention but to entertain, cites numerous works of the genre, like "Independence Day", "War of the Worlds", "Alien" and "Invaders from Mars". If the cast and direction could work better, the pace and effects are great. The unexpected ending is worthy of the best stories of the genre, but the current and strange demand for "realistic" and "logical" plots actually can make the audiences hate this film.

This would have been a much better film if the storyline was altered so that this bunch of hateful turds were moved to an area earmarked by the government for sacrifice to an alien race, you could then have cut out the third act altogether. Production values: forgettable SFX, too many scene-setting skyline shots (I guess this is how they got the title) and lots of low-light apartment scenes filmed on cameras that don't like low light levels. So Aliens vs. Predator wasn't a fluke. These Brothers Strause can maybe pull off some decent effects but their scripts are disasters. Lets get one thing out of the way this is a bad movie. The premise could've been good it could've been like Cloverfield but with an unrelenting alien force as the monster. The special effects are good for a movie on a 10 million dollar budget. However the story is so bad, the characters are unlikeable, the dialogue is terrible, and the ending was a shitty sequel bait cop out that went against the tone of the movie.

Cool concept. And unique/great aliens. The nearly indestructible nature of the aliens and their ability to regenerate/rebuild themselves is problematic to a good story (even if it might be realistic to what could happen if aliens really came here). Better acting could have helped and alien weaknesses would make it more watchable.

Not-bad mashup of various invasion movies (with explicit nods to INDEPENDENCE DAY and Spielberg’s WAR OF THE WORLDS, and the group dynamics are straight from NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD), but hurt by a limited budget, and a weak, one-note screenplay that splits between epic spectacle and low-key paranoia drama, ultimately not succeeding as either. Might have worked better if its most charismatic star (Faison) wasn’t dispatched so quickly!
