too many people have been overly critical of this movie, it turns out to be a pretty decent popcorn flick with a completely ludicrous ending with the strause brothers making a mad dash segue for the obviously planned sequel. the result is unnatural and distasteful. point being, if you stop the movie with about five minutes left you'll probably enjoy it.

A somewhat interesting (and frankly overt) subtext is bludgeoned into mediocrity by its other painfully average qualities. The actors aren't having any fun with such ridiculous material, and the pacing is awkward to the degree that by the time the epilogue occurs, it feels criminally out of place. It's standard fare borne of a far more interesting concept.

So this wasn't exactly a bad film, but I was expecting a lot more considering the trailer was so cool, but now I understand why the critics didn't like it. It is a decent action film but the unlikeable characters and poor storyline made it dull to watch. Even the aliens themselves were quite cool but the film just wasn't that enjoyable to watch, and films like War of the Worlds simply did it better. Overall worth a look but not if you're looking for something great, but still a good film.

A serviceable, if derivative, alien invasion movie, with a few things going for it. The first is the defeatist attitude of the whole thing; it's nice to watch an invasion where the humans are overwhelmed by alien technology, with no deus ex machinas to save them. And second, the subtext concerning the humans being literally attacked by the very concept of Special Effects - bright shiny lights drawing humans to their dooms, as aliens then remove their brains. That's some funny shit.

The actors are there, the special effects are good, at the beginning there were all the pieces that should have resulted in a passably decent movie, but letting the special effects supervisor write the story was pure poison. To Joshua Cordes: you are not a writer, you will never be a writer and this movie is shit purely because you decided to save .01 percent of your effects budget by not hiring one.

Laughably bad. It seems to pull off just about every cliche in the alien invasion genre possible and you can pretty much predict everything that was going to happen in it. Hell, you could make a drinking game whenever someone did something that didn't make sense or was stupid. Not even the special effects are all the impressive because this is the sort of shit we've seen a billion times already... and better! To its credit, though, there is unintentional humor to be had in its stupidity.

The premise for this movie under a talented filmmaker's hand could have been a very tense sci-fi thriller. Instead it's incredibly boring. The acting and script are terrible, the movie is about as subtle as a hammer, and the ending could have been decent until they added 5 more minutes and turned it into something completely awful. One to avoid.

Whoever wrote this movie obviously weren't cut out for screenwriting as they have no idea how to piece together a script, develop characters, create a plot or give an audience reason to care.

I usually enjoy just these kind of movies when most others seem to hate them, but my time would have been better and more enjoyably spent hammering some nails through my toes. Mixing and matching things from other movies, it features mindless characters, a horrible script and a wutalol ending, which leaves you wondering... what were they thinking, really?

It's a shame that so much went wrong with this movie, because I feel like they had a fairly good plot idea and a decent special effects team. Seriously, I can't shake the idea that there was one competent writer in this crew, who was negated by whoever came up with the dialog, the unlikable characters, and the horrifyingly bad, tacked-on ending (massacring the possibly great depressing conclusion). This would probably be 20 points higher if you ended the movie 2 minutes earlier.

War of the Worlds if done by Michael Bay and then re-remade by these equally wretched parasites. I watched this for the now infamous vagi-aliens and can now clarify that they definitely look like vaginas. That truly is Fruedian filmmaking at its worst, which is ironic as I don't think anyone involved would know who Freud was. Ending lived up to its infamous reputation. There really is no hope for Hollywood at this stage.

I actually enjoyed this movie a lot more than I expected to. It's a perfectly solid little C-movie sci fi. It's got a few neat ideas, shiny effects, and there aren't many alien invasion movies from the point of view of the nobody civilian. If it had ended 5 minutes earlier, instead of setting up for the inevitable sequel, I would have really liked it.

This is bad.Do yourself a favour and watch the trailer, because all you need to see from this SHIT movie is in it.The script is so bad i wanted to cry,and the actings abysmal,i found it so hard to like let alone care about anyone on screen, before halfway,i wanted them all to die.The Aliens look ok the first time you see them, but after the umpteenth time of seeing the same fucking thing it all becomes very complacent and boring you just give up hope. Oh,and the ending made me SO angry.

Enjoyable. Albeit a weaker remake of War of the Worlds. If you haven't seen War of the Worlds (staring Tom Cruise) watch that first. If you still need more Martian's attacking planet earth. Watch this movie and pretends all the blue/green guys and things are red!

The effects are good for the film's cost, but at this point half-way decent CGI and little else no longer cuts it, and what's left is a tedious, disinteresting alien invasion film this painful to watch and abruptly ends. It's a waste of money and talent in computer effects.

Promised a different take on the ol' alien invasion plot. Turns out it's basically just a retread of Independence Day told from the perspective of Cloverfield (without the shaky handcam, but with even more annoying characters). Some interesting alien designs, but apart from that, dull dull dull.

Has pretty much no redeeming qualities. All of the characters are unlikable, and we're only expected to care about the main couple because the woman is pregnant. That's a really cheap tactic to get the audience on your side. The plot goes nowhere, nothing has any consequence for the story, and it's basically a series of disposable characters getting killed by a series of disposable special effects. Unfortunately, it's not even worth watching for the cheesiness factor. A thoroughly poor movie.

Objectively worthless, apart from having decent effects and a mercifully high pace. As a fan of sci-fi I was more or less entertained throughout but the movie's main "strength" lies in its trashiness - if you enjoy that sort of thing.

Plot: there isn't one. No really, don't try to look for it, it isn't there. Characters: You'll want them all to die, but in the first 10 minutes of the movie rather than waiting for it to happen. Production values: forgettable SFX, too many scene-setting skyline shots (I guess this is how they got the title) and lots of low-light apartment scenes filmed on cameras that don't like low light levels. The only saving grace is the numerous times you can shout "hey this bit is from movie X but worse".

Shoddy, unfinished derivative crap. Characters I don't care about in a situation that they suck all the fun out of. Rips of War of the Worlds, The Matrix and Independence Day with nothing new added. The ending is so abrupt it lost the impact the directors wanted it to have as I broke down into laughter. The nuke that goes off should have vaporised everyone and half the city, I only wish it could have take the film stock with it too.
