I fully expect to be sent to "hockey fan jail" for this, but it's just not a very good movie. Sure, it has its moments, and I'll admit to getting pumped when the Hanson brothers first hit the ice and started gooning it up. But there's nothing else going on here.

I rewatched this, and it's even better than I remembered. A nearly perfect representation of small town life, its denizens, and the road trips and personalities of a sports team, all done with exceptional humor and outstanding editing and pacing. Greatest sports film ever; not only a wonderful comedy, but a realistic drama about growing old and the drudgery of the small-time.

Every time I would go to a Leaf game, there were always a couple things I could count on. The Leafs would lose and there would be 'Slap Shot' trivia. Given this mindset, I was led to believe that 'Slap Shot' was the film that got hockey right, not like the 'Mighty Ducks' I grew up on. Now I know where 'Ducks' got it from. The comedy isn't my bag. Things are set up with a smirk and the funny gets sucked out of it. 'Slap Shot' could have been about a failing pub and that wouldn't effect the plot.

A fun, eccentric sports comedy, and a nice bit of satire on hockey violence. Paul Newman makes for a lovable, even if flawed, protagonist.

Misogynistic, homophobic, and downright good old american crass. Hinting at larger issues such as violence in society and marriage it lightly skates along never trying to be anything special and in the end it becomes the unassuming film that captures your heart. It's the Bad News Bears for adults, the Bad Santa of its day. Slap Shot is a total goof in the best sense of the word.

Brilliant script, brilliant casting, by far the best sports movie ever made, and completely bonkers with profanity, violence, sex... Great!

Very dated and corny 70s Ice Hockey / comedy flick. Doesn't have too many redeeming features in my eyes... and the end is horrible, complete cop-out.

A very underrated "guy-movie."

Maybe some day someone will explain to me the humor in hockey violence, and what is so funny about the mere mention of homosexuality... until then, I can't say I understand why other guys guffaw at this crapfest.

Anarchy on the ice. I now think that Major League (a movie i def liked) showed a lot of the same vibes and story lines as this sports comedy. The only difference is that they didn't have the triplets. Their first appearance on the ice had me in stiches. Newman is great as the coach/player who changes the whole vibe of this set of mediocre players. The ending was a little stupid in my opinion, but overall this is one of the best hockey games I have ever seen (and I don't really like hockey).

I watched it in french dubbing and it was still funny :) Very pleasant movie with Newman. Ps. the Hanson brothers rock !!!

Has a bunch of outright hilarious moments if you enjoy hockey at all, but the pacing is so uneven and the film is so slow to get going (it doesn't pick up until the Hansons take the ice). Even after it slows down just about any time it's not dealing with hockey or the Hanson brothers. Worth a watch.

The fighting scenes are funny but everything that happens between them is just too boring. The private life of the main character doesn't interest me at all and mostly it's about him.

The is one of only a few good movies about hockey I have ever seen. Paul Newman gives another great performance and who can forget the Hanson brothers! This is a classic sports comedy movie.

There really aren't many hockey movies out there so this would obviously stand out as one of the better ones. Newman is funny but the movie is made by the Hanson brothers.

Has some funny moments, but the story itself isn't overly satisfying. However, everything with the Hanson Brothers is comedy gold.
