Not bad and has its moments, but gets unforgivably boring.

Anna Faris does a terrific performance in this. If only the rest of the film had a bit more punch to it to match her instead of having a pace as half baked as the main character.

Wanders, drifts, nods off, gets lost, munches, pontificates, gets really paranoid. Am I allowed to criticize a stoner comedy for acting stoned? I'll wait on an answer to that and, in the mean time, knock it for not being funny instead. Faris dives in admirably deep and rides the character perfectly, but there's little definition to the meandering production; this might have been better as a short or recurring SNL sketch, where we could get some breathing room away from the haze.

I hated this totally unfunny garbage so much that I had actually successfully forgotten that it existed. Until now. Damn it.

A young woman has a bunch of horrible things happen to her because she gets high. "Just Say No" script could have been written by Nancy Reagan and is a total downer. Love Anna Faris though.

Hard to tell if this movie is as dumb as it seems or if there is more than meets the eye. Anna Faris sure pulls some amusing stoner faces and there are numerous interesting directorial choices which bring a freshness and in-your-face style. Several very funny moments, but also times where it drags awfully. Araki has some talent, but also seems to have a self-destructive side. Possibly funnier if you're stoned... even so it stood out more than a lot of blander, more generic comedies.

All I can say about Smiley Face is that it's a simple-minded comedy made for simple-minded folks who, well, smoke marijuana. If you don't, there are still a few laughs to be found, but the film assuredly isn't for everyone.

I laughed harder reading nosferatuman's review than at any point watching this lazy crap. Made me feel embarrassed to smoke weed.

This was a LOT funnier than I expected it to be. Anna Faris is absolutely perfect... she should be a huge star.

Just a little too ridiculous and over-the-top. I'm typically a fan of Araki, but this is not one of his better offerings.

If you get high and watch this of all things then you're just a horrible person. I knew a guy who ate too many pot brownies once; he nearly blacked out a couple of times and eventually puked his guts out. Not really a funny anecdote unless you're an asshole but I guess it's still somehow more amusing than this piece of shit and it doesn't waste 90 minutes of your time with an annoying idiot doing stupid faces and acting retarded.

I tried to like this movie. I really did. I love a good stoner comedy, and I love Farris. But while there are a few fun laughs earlier on in the movie, by the end you're just shaking your head and thinking, "This kind of thing is why cannabis is still illegal."

The film overall lacks punch, but I did like how messy and surrealistic it all was. And Anna Faris sure can make mediocre material work wonderfully!

Sure, it ain't Up In Smoke, but as far as stoner comedies goes there are much much worse films out there. I actually saw it twice.

A film marred by preconceived notions of what "stoner" and "comedy" mean in the phrase "stoner comedy," Smiley Face is one of the funniest comedies of the decade, yes, but it is also devilishly clever. The plot is slight and purposely undercooked: Jane eats "special" cupcakes and has a day. The movie lies in her adventure, and it delivers relentlessly. This light-hearted romp is impeccably shaped, each character given their own distinct aesthetic palette. Watch it again; it's in the details.
