lol, AIDS. [Needed more character development for the female lead. But Lubezki's cinematography was wonderful (as always) and I loved the little literary intertitles.]

Little more than a slightly sophisticated, slightly raunchy romantic comedy. There's not much below the surface, and ultimately it might as well be a Farrelly brothers movie starring Adam Sandler. But at least it's done well. The repeated use of Mozart is exquisite, and there are some nice little touches like the paper cones and the double names. And it's shot very nicely, and its use of AIDS as a comedic device is bold for the time.
