Every time I see a movie geared towards young audiences where are NO fart jokes in it I feel happy. It's one of those feel-good movies that makes the life seem full of hope. There is nothing revolutionary about it, but I bet it will make even the most hard-hearted person smile. Movie about kids, but not necessarily for kids.
I'm all over this flick in a big bad way. It takes awhile to get going, but once it does, the development of the story of these two aspiring filmmakers (and, in a lot of ways, the development of two "enemies" into two brothers) becomes something beautiful and more. I loved how their friendship not only brought the two of them closer, but also brought them closer with their respective families (one moreso than the other). Another under-the-radar flick that's become a favorite. Glad I took a shot.
I think it started off a bit slow and failed to engage me but then somewhere along the line I felt myself really getting into seeing this two kids grow up together with their love of film making. I believed both kid actors and thought it was a pretty clever flick. The ending wasn'ta surprise at all but I found it moving and adorable so I was sold on it.
This is one of the most charming and endearing films I have had the pleasure of watching. The undoubted stars and primary focus of the film are two young boys who would struggle to be more different but together they manage to create such fun amongst themselves and for audiences of the film with their childish passion and excitement for amateur film-making, completely hidden from their families !!
The French kid doesn't work, so about a third of a the movie is a bit bumpy, but the two leads are perfect and it's fun to watch for the most part so I'm not complaining too much.
This movie has charm bleeding out of it's heart. While I really like almost everything about it perhaps the greatest thing about this movie is that when I tell people how much I love it, they always think I'm talking about a sequel to the Rambo franchise and assume I'm making a joke.
Fun is a great word to describe this film. Anyone who loves movie making should get a kick out of this film. This is a good story about growing up and meeting a friend.
"Until it dissolves into routine sentimentality, Son of Rambow proves a welcome corrective to the legion of post-Rushmore indies defined by their precious quirkiness and pathos." - Nick Schager
