You may've heard SPEED described as DIE HARD on a bus, and that's mostly true, but what you don't know about SPEED is that it's also the better movie. Leaner, faster, better scripted (not to mention less sadistic) -- with one ingenious sequence following another, and a winning, star-making performance by Keanu Reeves (yes, you read that right). Along with TERMINATOR 2, SPEED is the most exhilarating pure action movie of the 90s.

One of my favorite action movies; a ridiculous, over-the-top, thinly characterized... and very, very fun movie. The movie constantly throws complications and conflicts into the mix, and they're all pulse-pounding. Great stuff!

This movie is pure rubbish for an endless number of reasons, but this is the biggest one: being the plot stupidly simple the writer(s) had to complicate the situation with characters behaving like decerebrate sociopath monkeys, and I hate this solution with all of me. Not to mention the scent of (involuntary?) low budget humor that is felt in too many scenes, or dialogues that would be suitable only in Asylum's movies

A real american/cop/action movie, but that's what is cool about it; it's fast and stressed, lots of action in it, and the good guy saves the day in a manly heroic way.^^

Much better than it should have been, and an example of when cast/crew haul for the effort despite the genre-origin as a DIE HARD knock-off. DP Jan DeBont creates one of the best pictures of the action cinema in the 1990s. Keanu Reeves was smart to NOT do the sequel. Woh!

A standard suspense driven action, it keeps interest for the large part of the film. Lacks any real depth, but that's no the point of this film.

Ths movie might make you think twice about riding the bus to work. Good action sequences balanced out by character development and the storyline, which is simle - bad guy places a bomb on a city bus. Once the bus reaches 50mph, it can't go below that or the bomb will blow. Sandra Bullock driving the bus reminded me of Karen Black flying the plane in Airport 75. Dennis Hopper was fabulous as the evil antagonist. Speed is worth watching just to see him.

Nice and pacey original movie. Dennis Hopper chewing the scenery - in a good way.

It's like Die Hard on a bus, except it isn't that at all. If you don't mind some improbable physics they make fairly good use of the bus...although I do wonder why they didn't just pulse the bus with an EMP.

Cool action movie about a bus with a bomb and if you drive too fast, then BOOM, everyone dies! Pretty entertaining and theres also some decent dark humour awaiting.

A very dumb movie with plot holes large enough to drive a bus through. Far more entertaining than it has any right to be, largely because of Dennis Hopper.

God, I love this movie. It doesn't matter how many times I see it, I always get so caught up in watching it. Jack is refreshingly kind and cares about people, the sort of cop I wish really existed. The sound score is top notch it definitely deserved that Academy Award for sound editing. All in all, a great experience of a film. It loses points for its slow start and the relatively unnecessary romance, but I'll still happily watch it over and over.

This movie is a way over the top action flick. Its great if you are looking to turn your brain off and watch things go boom (We all need that once in a while lol). The plot makes sense enough to carry you to the end but not epic.

Straight-forward action movie with a one dimensional, yet charismatic, leading man. More novelty than substance, as once the primary setting change and the stakes are altered, the movie loses a lot of its momentum before the end.

A speeding bus? Clearly not set in England. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock work as the leading pair, however, they are totally outclassed by Dennis Hopper's villainous bomber. A very simple idea that just works so well.
