Not too bad. The good is Shea Whigham, Paulo Costanzo, and the initial scenes inside the gas station. There's some pretty good tension there, but it does definitely take a turn for the ridiculous (even for a monster movie) when Whigham's arm needs to come off. There's a lot of predictability, but it shouldn't be lumped in with the usual low budget sci-fi type straight to video fare. Whigham really is pretty damn good, and in my opinion, makes it worth a viewing.

It may be satisfying for genre fans, but Splinter doesn't bring anything new to the field. The creatures are acceptable, the premise alright, the setup par for the course. The film asks you to suspend disbelief, and then proceeds to direct its characters down a path that will result in one or more of them being infected, many of them being killed, and at least one escaping. I've definitely seen it before.

Derivative but surprisingly adequate low-budget (no CGI!) horror movie. Imagine The Thing set in a petrol station, with almost none of the "who's a monster" paranoia but instead a sense of tension that doesn't quite let up, a genuinely disgusting monster (insect hairs... ew) and a few laughs along the way. Nothing special, really, but at 78 minutes it never really has time to go off the rails either.

surprisingly not horrible, it's basically a less terrifying version of the thing. the monster is pretty well done and it is fairly creepy. my only problem is that it's not tense enough and the body count is minimal. dug the character development though.

I was really surprised by how good this movie was considering it was direct to DVD or made for TV or whatever. A creative monster idea and good effects. Simple setup but well-executed. Pretty standard in some ways but many horror movies have done much worse with much more at their disposal.

A novel concept reminiscent of The Thing. I can't help but think more could have been done, though. Perhaps the budget forced it to be limited to essentially "horror in a bottle," but I felt short-changed overall. However, it is not without merit within the genre.

Standard and by the book, but none of it is bad really...and the characters are actually above average by modern horror film standards. Still, predictable, formulaic and unremarkable, but some marginal enjoyment can be had.

What "Splinter" does, it does well and to worthy effect. Made on an independent budget, Director Toby Wilkins brings us back to a lot of the same visual style of Carpenter's '82 film "The Thing." Similar to that, and adding in its own zombie techniques, this is a briskly entertaining 82-minute dive into cheap, old school horror - a film better than a lot of what passes for horror in cinemas these days. It's been seen before, and it's not terrifying, but it is fun and well made.

Splinter is a surprisingly good low-budget horror flick. It's kind of like "The Blob", but on a smaller scale. The thing I liked most about the movie is the excellent job that the screenplay writers and the actors did to develop and humanize the characters. The movie is gruesome, extremely lean, and fun to watch in the late evening with some microwave popcorn. Recommended.

Splinter has an absolutely terrible beginning with horrible acting, but slowly builds up to an above average horror movie until the cinderblock scene. After the cinderblock scene, it turns into a mix of the absolutely ridiculous and the absolutely predictable. The part between the first half an hour and the last twenty minutes is great, though.
