Nice and authentic photography - there's one night scene done on a stage that's right out of Detour, but most of the daytime stuff has a nice dirty authenticity. Storywise, it's silly but it works. Along with Carnegie Hall, it's Ulmer's lightest film.

Astonishingly good, considering how low budget this is.

Nice light-hearted tale of redemption with a great cast of shoulda beens (well Lionel Stander sorta was) and former child stars. The laughs are few and far between for a comedy, but the movie manages to keep your interest with the struggles and desires of its colorful characters. There are quite a few hokey moments, but overall it was a pretty good flick. The last twenty minutes or so really make it a worthwhile watch, but the real treat is the beautiful song Dick Haymes sings near the end.
