Getting star trek back out of the nerd cor(e)ner, JJ Abrams gives the aging franchse a shiny (!) overhaul, not completely discarding the dynamcics of the old enterprise crew's relationships, but giving them new drive. I love that the second movie is rumoured to not even have a proer villain in it, but be centered around the characters pretty much entirely. The best "Reboot" since Batman.

It's strange, this is a movie that I find myself willing to rewatch again and again in spite of the fact that it's actually kind of bad if you look too closely. Plot holes you could fly the Enterprise through, overuse of coincidence (and lens flare) etc. But something about it makes me enjoy it in spite of everything, it's unashamed to be trying to have fun and the cast, Zacharay Quinto in particular, are fantastic.

Could have been awesome if only they'd hired some writers. Plot was ridiculous. Cast was a solid hat tip to the original. Production values unbelievably good. Anything can be made to look real these days.

Was expecting a little more after all the praise. The stage was set for a better narrative.

Definitely a film that stands on its onw two feet, with respect to the past but paves the way for exciting future films. ( Old trekkies can go to hell, cause the old films were boring as bat shit - it was only the characters that saved the original films) Looking fwd to the future films Stand outs were Urban & Pine

All the scenes featuring the 'older' Spock seem forced and tacked on, there are some ridiculous technological blunders, and I still don't see why no one thought to destroy the drill... But other than that, the movie was fairly entertaining (more entertaining than at least 75% of the other ST movies)

Doesn't hold a candle to my love for "The Next Generation" series (beats some of the movies). It's script often tends being shallow and over convenient. There are far too many inconsistencies towards the universe (even considering the alternate timeline). This modern reboot seems to be overall unoriginal, borrowing many elements from Star Wars, recycling Star Trek episodes, and focusing more on action and special effects (oh, and the sound effects, my goodness).

Simon Pegg was my favorite... after JJ Abrams of course.

If they had cut out Chekov, the romance and some unnecessary short scenes at the beginning, this would have been a superb sci-fi blockbuster. As it stands it's merely very good. Great specials effects, a simple, coherent storyline was some solid performances from Pine, Quinto and Pegg. Uh. And Karl Urban! I couldn't name one single movie that couldn't use more Karl Urban!

Fantastic Movie. From the just past star wars generation of nerdfucks, i have a tough time watching old star wars, and star trek. I'll admit to loving thi smovie 1000x more than any other star trek, period.

I'll start by saying I have very little experience with the shows. Once you sit and think about this movie things start to break down. Some of the action is really absurd and completely over the top while other parts seem grounded in some type of reality. It took me out of the movie in a couple of spots. I did like the characters and it is definitely an easy watch. It grabs you from the start and moves at a breakneck pace until the end. Sometimes I just wanted it to linger a little longer.

J.J Abrams, you're the man. Michael Giacchino, you're the man. This movie got me to like star trek.

A fast-paced, often hilarious, but always invigorating action/sci-fi mashup film with some of the most accurate, excellent casting in a movie I've seen in years. Each actor embodies the character he or she is playing perfectly, mixing attributes of the originals with new, interesting details.
