Oddly, what kept this from being great was not the characters which were fairly well done, but the mundane story line and weak villain.A Poorly thought out plot doesn't help

A perfect blend of action, character development, a snazzy plot and great special effects. And I'm not even a Trekky.

Star trek has its own fan base, to whom the movie would appeal to. Not being part of that fan base, I feel the movie was made as starting for many other movies to come. The resemblance of the people with the old Star trek was really good. Acting was pathetic, special effects werent something new. I felt the movie would set a new standard for special effects. Probably went with a lot of expectations. Simon Pegg really makes you laugh. Not a real entertainer. Every one has their own opinion.

An enjoyable movie. J.J. Abrahams definately puts something new into the franchise. I'm glad that those "one long episode of TNG" kind of ST movies were abandoned. This also means there will be no Voyager movie (?), which won't actually bother me as long as the quality level of these new era movies stays this high.

Manages to distract you from its enormous plot holes and interest vacuum of a villain, for most of the running time.

Epic and twisted story line, I found it quite interesting.

I went into this movie never having watched a star trek show or movie in my life. And this just ended up being one of my favorite movies of the year. That just goes to say that this movie is out there to please the mass audience instead of just trek fans. And it's one more movie added to J J Abrams list that has him rising as a great director

Now firstly I have to admit to being a great Star Trek fan, but the thing about this film is you don't need to be. The plot is well crafted and there are plenty of hidden references to keep deep trekkies satisfied without spoiling the film. The casting is superb capturing the underlying character of the original cast. Special effects are good, and there is a real sense of humour to the film too. A great prequel well worth watching.

After reading multiple sources of positie reception for this unexpectedly good revival for the series, I made the decision to see it. Although it didn't fully satisfy my expectations, Star Trek is a spectacular comeback and impact on all of the Trekkies fans that gradually hyped it up. Everybody is perfect as the old USS Enterprise crew of the past, especially Spock. Sure it has a deal of inconsistencies and genuinely annoying flaws, but Abrams's vision will be remembered for quite some time.

The highest praise i can give this movie is that it managed to suck me in and make me care for the characters only 5 minutes and a few lines of dialogue in. Which i can safely say hasn't happened to me before. I haven't seen a blockbuster like this for many years. J.J. Abrams can do no wrong. #1 movie for 2009.

Fantastic! If only the Star Wars prequels were handled with the type of care and respect as this franchise was. The dullish "origin story" is presented at a thrilling pace and with that element of fun and humor that bypasses all the too-serious spin-offs and heads right back to the original series - thank god.

Abrams has done Star Trek justice and while this movie has some beautiful special effects which only help it soar in the entertainment department, it does have some flaws. Mainly surrounding the script as at times it feels a little dumb. Some characters make better use of their screen time then others. Ultimately it is a good movie and you'll more than likely have fun watching it.

I've never been a trekkie but this movie was Great! The cast did a great job and more than a few times I was reminded of the classic series.

Infectious fun with enough fan service that you can tell the creators are reverent of the source without being beholden to it.

A fast-paced, often hilarious, but always invigorating action/sci-fi mashup film with some of the most accurate, excellent casting in a movie I've seen in years. Each actor embodies the character he or she is playing perfectly, mixing attributes of the originals with new, interesting details.

As a person who doesn't care the least bit about Star Trek and its universe, this movie, to me, was just great looking fan service. In fact, the fan service is what makes me score the movie the way I did, as it is simply for the fans, and not for me. There have been Star Trek films I've liked (Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home), but they've both been for cheesy fun. This wasn't cheesy, it was just underwhelming. And the Nimoy scenes were hideously forced. Sorry.

A great film, even for those who are not familiar with previous Star Trek releases.

All things considered I think the universe reboot was pretty well-handled, and while I know some purists may gravitate toward the old universe, you have to admit the movie was very well-done. I will say one thing: no movie is complete without at least one slightly amusing red-shirt death!

This brings back that "Indiana Jones" feeling. Fast but perfectly paced genesis-story, this doesn't just rejuvenate a franchise. It sets new standards. Best Star Trek movie ever. Rock and effen Roll.

Great for Trek fans, Star Wars fans, and those who have never seen a Sci-Fi movie in their lives. The one small negative in this otherwise great film is the director J.J. Abrams love for lens flares. While it might not bother most viewers, it did tend to get on my nerves. A minor complaint.

Having not seen any other Star trek films, or really more than a couple of episodes of the shows. I absolutly loved this film.

Special effects and action sequences, of which there are many, are good. Everything else, not so much.

Good fun

Tons of fun. Cleverly tongue in cheek and packed with action. Probably my favorite Star Trek movie, and I've seen em all. More with this crew, please.
