the star trek movie that alienates trekkies for the sake of mass appeal, and it definately is appealing. this movie has a ton of action, and a generally exciting, and many times funny plot. while the average person may find this movie very entertaining, the star trek fan will find the deviation from reality in past movies unsettling. regardless of the artistic license taken in this movie i definately look forward to see where they take the franchise next.

Shows how a remake should be, while true to the source, expands the "universe". Time-travel issue was a brilliant problem solver, which meant Leonard Nimroy himself. Also, casting Eric Bana is always a wise choice.

To all the Star Trek fans I bring a message: ha ha ha ha! It is just like Star Wars just dressed off interesting and funny things Star Wars had and put in a shiny new clothes. It is so full of stupidity one cannot imagine it is possible to put that much in one movie. You have to give credit for that! Now imagine the franchise that is more than 40 years old - you would expect something from that, and now all good you get is references and Quinto. And there was time travelling. Didn't help though.

This new cast were excellently cast, especially the appearance of the original spok, which was a real novelty, accomplished with aplombe. The action, and the plot were compelling throughout, and the use of the old blended with the new made this a fine accomplishment, and one which is as impressive as recent work in the Batman renewal. Also, the visual effects were out of this world, and this cast and team will surely live long and prosper.

Not quite as great as I remember. As a reboot it gave me what I wanted and was very enjoyable for the most part, it isn't without its flaws however. There are plenty of plot holes and I found the cast to be largely hit and miss (the only actor I found who nailed their performance was Karl Urban) and the humour rarely works. Then there's Eric Bana, who probably gives the worst main villain performance in the entire series. As a fan, I did get a little emotional during the credits sequence.

I'm a fan of the old frenchise, but I appreciate the special effects of our time, and this didn't disappoint. A lot of Comedy, which I love. To see the old characters in these new actors was just a delight. It was only Spock I had a little trouble with since he had too much sarcasm and too much illogical emotions. Chris Pine as Kirk is a jewel, and really fun to see Karl Urban as Bones. One of the most entertaining new sci-fi movies out there.

I actually quite liked it, and I'm not a Trek fan. But I did think it was very Hollywoodized and the lens light flashies were over-used and they were annoying. The effects were beautiful, the explosions were pretty cool and Spock's a hawtie. I'm glad I had a Trek-fan sitting next to me, sometimes explaining stuff, so I understood more things that weren't explained in the movie

I was nervous about the so-called 'reboot' of Star Trek, but was pleasantly surprised by the imaginative depiction of the TOS characters. Quinto's young Spock is dead on, Yelchin's Chekov is a delight and Pegg's entertaining Scotty would put a smile on any true Trekkie's face. Wasn't sure how to take a potential romance between Uhura and Spock's characters (whatever happened to Pon Far??) but seeing as it's mostly her showing nuturing concern, it doesn't seem quite as unbelievable as I'd feared.

Without understanding all the references and all the trekkie humour nothing but a mediocre movie is left. The acting is nothing but average even though the cast fits pretty good concerning their looks. The art department gave the enterprise quite a flashy style update while the special effects aren't overly impressive compared to what could be seen in very recent film history. 07/05/09

Great reboot/refresh of the franchise (only in the Star Trek universe a movie can be a reboot and not at the same time). The filmmakers sure understood how to make Star Trek appealing to a wider audience who could care less about the ten previous films. Modern storytelling techniques and special effects, coupled with great performances by people who really evoke the old characters make for a very powerful movie.

Lot's of explosions and F/X. If that's what you're looking for, and you are also a S-T fan, you're guaranteed to enjoy it. For almost everyone else it's an MTV sequence of cliches.

I'll start by saying I have very little experience with the shows. Once you sit and think about this movie things start to break down. Some of the action is really absurd and completely over the top while other parts seem grounded in some type of reality. It took me out of the movie in a couple of spots. I did like the characters and it is definitely an easy watch. It grabs you from the start and moves at a breakneck pace until the end. Sometimes I just wanted it to linger a little longer.
