It really is a Star Trek movie for Star Wars fans. Spock kissing Uhura is one of the most disgusting things I ever saw on a screen. But in the whole it's well-produced, and managed to entretain.

I'm not sure how to score this. This is not Star Trek. This is a blockbuster action fanfic, much of which seems inspired by Star Wars. Gene Roddenberry must be turning in his grave. Nevertheless, it probably is the most widely appealing Star Trek title produced, which I suppose is worth something. It succeeded where Nemesis and Enterprise failed - rebooting the series into something that appealed to a wider audience. Also, the film seemed to shamelessly trade logic for imagery and adrenaline.

Spock was the highlight of the film. I was thoroughly entertained and even moved by certain dramatic scenes. I really didn't like the way Kirk was portrayed in the film. Shatner had a lot more charm than Chris Pine.

I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining this was. I've never really watched Star Trek in the past, but after watching this it makes me want to start watching the show. Great Sci-fi movie! I'd recommend seeing this in the theater if possible.

Like a second hand gadget: fancy and arousing at the start but one that gradually breaks down. This was the first time I saw anything related to Star Trek, and I'm not convinced. 96 on rottentomatoes ? Gooosh, next time, I'm following my guts...

Not without its problems, the plot is a tad on the flimsy sided and the movie gives screen time to pointless subplots and Nero is no Khan as the movie's villain. Still the characters are well represented, it's funny and the action is entertaining and doesn't feel too contrived. It will always be compared to Khan, and while it doesn't quite stand up to those heights it lays the foundations for future films (and hopefully series) to build on.

Going into this movie cold, having never seen an episode of Star Trek and being skeptical about the series, this movie was highly entertaining and accessible with only small stumbling blocks of confusion that were easily remedied by a second viewing.

Rebooting Star Trek is a heck of an idea. The cast is perfect and the special effects are really impressive. This is a movie that is genuinely entertaining and doesn't compromise its style for anything. It captures the 60's flair but retains a wholly relevant appeal for a new generation. Star Trek is awesome.

There are a few things which make this movie that good: first of all the fact that one doesn't need any knowledge of previous star trek films, which makes it enjoyable for everyone. Second of all, it just looks awesome, everything from the make up and costumes to the CGI effects is quite perfect. Next to that the acting performances are great. Last but not least the story itself is quite amazing at times, but it's a good thing they didn't take it too serious(funny at times). Just a great film!

Really impressive reboot that feels more entertaining than any other Star Trek film I've seen. Really feels like a modern version of Star Wars for adults with superb special effects and extremely entertaining set pieces. One of the most entertaining "blockbusters" in recent memory. Highly recommended.

the reason so many of these kinds of reboots are infused with new psychological and moral weight is because the originals have been assimilated and can no longer give us anything - they're dated, in other words. it's nice to have someone try proving otherwise with a straight up revival sans revisionist baggage, but nice is all it is; mostly it's fresh only on a stylistic level, failing to live long and prosper in the memory. great casting though.

Abrams reenergizes the tired franchise. Impeccable casting and a deft hand with the iconic touchtones of the franchise are helped by a solid script that's funny and packs some genuine thrills. Every character gets a nice moment to shine, and Abrams manages to cleverly shed the burden of the continuity while keeping the spirit of the original series.

The writing, cinematography, and direction are terrible. That said, I still, somehow, had some fun watching it. At least it doesn't take itself too seriously. But why is that romance in there? It's underdeveloped and does absolutely nothing for the film. Nonetheless, it's the only thing in the Star Trek franchise that I can stomach at all.

I was one of the few lucky fans who attended the Sydney premiere and my impression was "Wow!" The use of a well known Roddenberry plot device to reset the franchise was a brilliant idea and means the franchise can now move forward without the "FANS" shouting "canon!" The special effects are top notch.

Typical Abrams, to its detriment. Uninteresting, abrasive characters in the midst of a bad story that has a cult following. The Star Trek universe still comes across as treacherous and claustrophobic, with nothing pleasant to offer viewers, and it's not thrilling either thanks to the weak characters. The "humor" is painful and the callbacks to the old series are tiring. Bana makes a good, substantial villain and Pegg adds some life to the film too, but it's not enough. Nice effects though.

A Star Wars film in a Star Trek chassis, this reboot is a fun summer action film with a likeable cast, a nearly-incomprehensible plot, and a short enough running time to keep me from getting bored. Check it out if you have an HDTV.

Damn fun movie! No one will mistake it for intellectually ambitious science fiction, but what it is is action-adventure spit-shined to Hollywood summer movie perfection. As a lifelong Star Wars hardcore I'm embarrassed at how much more muscular, witty, energetic, and fun this movie is than the whole prequel trilogy put together. A generic villain and haphazardly bombastic score are the only blemishes. This, Batman Begins, and Casino Royale together form the 00s Trilogy of Reboot Greatness.
