Might have made a good episode of TNG, but it's not really movie material. I did like Kirk's little cabin in the woods. Always wanted a place like that for myself.

Hey, let's do a Star Trek movie with the new guys. Wait, NEW guys? Well, we can break the audience in easy: if any TOS guys want a role in this movie, let's make one for them and not give them anything to do except Kirk.

A contrived main plot with low stakes and little sense of urgency. There is an attempt however at true character development with both Picard and Data but Data's scenes are a mixed blessing and Picard's are well set up but poorly executed. This is also one of Patrick Stewart's worst turns as Picard. [Rifftrax used most of the time to go off on tangents which comedically weren't worth the effort. A poor showing considering the prime material.]

Stale crossover entry between the original and Next Generation franchises.
