You have to wonder if it didn't have 'Start Trek' in the title this movie would get the recognition it deserves. The Wrath of Khan is as near as perfect for an adventure film; it's character driven with story and writing that is pitch perfect, borrowing liberally - but intelligently - from the likes of Dickens, Shakespeare and Melville and James Horner's score is a tour de force. Unquestionably one the finest movies of its genre.

So good the folks behind the TNG movies have tried to remake this twice, missing the point each time. Wrath Of Khan is really about Kirk getting old, he's no longer the dashing young captain, flying around the galaxy getting in adventures. He's aging, stuck behind a desk, and when he takes the Enterprise out for a quick spin he finds himself facing the consequences of his youth. Shatner is great in this, the action always drives the plot forward and it has a very satisfying end.

A surprising well acted, very well written film, with some great imagery and a great score. It helps if you've seen the Khan arc of the original series, but even if you haven't, you'll pick up all you need to know from the film and still be able to follow the plot. Not just the best of the Star Trek films, but a true science fiction classic.
