Goofy as all get out but a hell of a lot of fun. Plummer is awesome as the over the top bad guy.

Brush up your Shakespeare, Klingons are quoting him now. So-so political allegory that tries to become a mystery then switch back to a conspiracy plot, with the result that everything gets a bit muddled. Fewer visible production problems, but still clearly done on a tight budget. Gulag planet subplot went nowhere, but the blue-faced alien who battles Kirk did bear a striking facial resemblance to Roger Federer. No interesting, meaningful or likeable female characters, despite Cattrall and Iman.

Not bad. A nice return to the tone and production value of Wrath of Khan. The sets are fully realized and creative. The prison world is fun. The mystery carries the film.

While it's not as good as II, IV, or First Contact, VI does hold it's own. It's a good story that stands on it own. It also sets the stage for the "future history" of ST:TNG with camp Kittamer and Worf. Silly at times (Iman) but good battle scenes. A Shakespere quoting Klingon? Sure why not.

After the debacle of the last entry, Meyer manages to get things rolling once again with a nice mixture of laughs and suspense. Cattrall is good as Spock's Vulcan protege (originally Kirstie Alley was to have returned as Saavik but things didn't pan out) and although Plummer overdoes it as the eye-patched, Shakespeare-spouting Klingon villain, he's a study in subtlety when compared to Christopher Lloyd in Trek III. Good roles for Takei and Whitney in a nice send-off for the classic cast

Finally an allegory; a core sci-fi tenant. Not the greatest story but Meyer's sensibilities are able to mold for our stalwart crew a worthy mission that dignifies them and the audience. Kim Cattrall also gives a stellar if under appreciated performance. Low budget but Meyer/Nimoy makes it a good run for the money. [Rifftrax spends a little too much time equating this as a terrible movie. Still our boys manage an all in good fun ribbing (except for a few postmortem jabs). Recommended.]
