The lines are what hurt the movie, and that damn gungan Jar Jar. The pod racing and Darth Maul salvage parts of the movie, and the fact that it's critical to the saga.
Worst part of the saga, still a bit entertaining at times and with some good scenes here and there, though too childish in some aspects. Technically it's also the one that using mostly CGs for many things all them look too obvious and now aged bad, something that improved in Ep.II and III. I just think this and Ep.II were necessary to do the Ep.III without it looking like coming from nowhere, but Lucas should have made much more effort and avoid trusting so much on effects to fill the story.
This was the best thing since sliced bread at the time. Widely not considered that brilliant now, I think I know why. After so long, this was Star Wars as we've never seen it, a sort of expanded universe showing the very roots of the saga. Still brilliant for that reason. I can't help it though but it bugs me that all the ships and droids seem more advanced than in the later films. Also Ewan McGregor's take on a youthful Obi Wan is refreshing and Neeson's Qui Gon didn't deserve to die.
The expectation for this movie was HUGE. My generation grew up with the original trilogy, we were just that little bit too young to see Star Wars or Empire at the Cinema but most of us remember Jedi at the cinema/drive in. This was Star Wars for OUR generation and it was going to be AWESOME.... except it wasn't. It was a terrible shame and such a let down. It's an ok scifi movie but doesn't even BEGIN to capture the magic of Star Wars.
