Sensitive film about an aging novelist, played with great sensitivity and vulnerability By Frank Langella.

I don't care about this novelist and I care even less about his daughter.

Very underrated movie. I was impressed yet again by Frank Langella, and pleasantly surprised by both Lili Taylor and Lauren Ambrose. It has some important things to say about aging, at several stages in one's life, and about creativity or self expression. This movie may mean something totally different to every viewer, so it's hard to give a detailed review. I can't believe that this went underneath everybody's radar in 2007, including mine. Go see it.

Very underrated. Langella, Ambrose and Taylor are all in great form here. A very good, almost great, movie about life, love, loss and literature.

A "small" film, and one that is very much worth seeing. It is about the relationship between an old (not "aging" - OLD) writer, famous in the 'late '50s and '60s , now blocked and unproductive, and a young female graduate student who comes into his life intending to write an MA thesis about his (previous) work. Langella and Ambrose are terrific in their roles. Neither of the two lead characters is especially likable, but they certainly hold your attention every moment they are on screen.

Nicely done drama, although the subplot about the author's daughter's lovelife has nothing to do with the rest of the movie. I've written screenplays that stole a couple of ladies' hearts to what looks like the same level of intensity that Ambrose displays here, so I must admit I'm kind of biased
