Captures the mood and expectations of the often illfounded enthusiasm of the era.

The opening of 'Startup.com' really tells you everything you need to know about the documentary. Not so much about plot or premise, but the idea that most of what goes on in the film is about hype and rhetoric. You never really see the inner workings of "govWorks.com", but you do see a lot of conferences and meetings where they tell each other they'll be the best. How? "Because they won't back down." The drama starts after the dot-com bust, but by then you're already sick and tired of the story.

You will likely not be surprised to learn that Kaleil Isaza Tuzman was sentenced to three years of probation in 2021 for fraudulent activity as CEO and chairman of KIT Digital (part of his post-govWorks.com life). As Dave Log points out on YouTube, in hindsight it is a distinct possibility that Kaleil staged the break-in of govWorks.com headquarters. What about Tom Herman? He is still idealistic; he is currently CEO of Meta-Carbon, which markets NFTs to combat human-induced climate change.
