Not very exciting in terms of its shape, but the film is surprisingly trust-worthy and compelling in its disclosure of troubled relationships within a little family.

I's an OK film, but ultimately I just didn't care. Stella is by far one of the most annoying women ever put on tape, and while she probably tries her best, her god-awful parenting skills and FAILING AT LIFE just led me to.. be glad when she finally comes to her senses, and that's just the opposite of what the film tries to do. It was entertaining enough, but.. It's strange to me how the film both makes Stella the most annoying person ever and then expects you to care.

Barbara Stanwyck's performace is outstanding as a mother who desperately tries to fit in by doing all the wrong things and Stella's slow realization about how her daughter should live is heartbreaking. One of Stanwyck's best performances.
