Anna and Ben, the two children of Jackie and Luke, have to cope with the fact that their parents divorced and that there is a new woman in their father's life: Isabel, a successful photographer. She does her best to treat the kids in a way that makes them still feel at home when being with their dad, but also loves her work and does not plan to give it up. But Jackie, a full-time mother, regards Isabel's efforts as offensively insufficient... (imdb)

Passably trite entertainment that will be eaten up mostly by women who enjoy looking at nice scenery, big houses full of the classic furniture, kids who do their homework and eat all their food, and lots of soul-bearing argumentative confrontations.

I had three whole thoughts during this movie: 1. Wow, Susan Sarandon can be a real bitch. 2. Julia Roberts reminds me of a whore even when she's not playing one. 3. Aw, I take back what I said about Sarandon. ...Meh, I guess.

I guess it was alright if you ignore that it was completely manipulative in all the worst ways.

This movie was sitting around as a joke gift from five years ago, and I'm glad I picked it up and watched it tonight. The photography was unexceptional and the interactions were repetitive, but I actually did get all wetfaced at the end. Also the wooden performance of the muppet who played the little boy was enjoyably ridiculous throughout.

Sappy, manipulative tear-jerker which almost (almost) manages to wiggle past your defenses, thanks to reliably solid work from Sarandon, Roberts and (an underused) Harris, but the characters are so shallow and stridently written, especially Sarandon's playing the "bitch" so completely that it becomes difficult to sympathise with her in the later stages, that the film undercuts its own sincerity. Will definitely remember to haul out "Aint No Mountain" next time I have an unresolvable conflict!

Grt film. An emotional roller coaster - did just right. Riveting performances. Portrays the pain of leaving loved ones behind. One that you can view again and again.

I found the character interaction somewhat unrealistic. I really did want to like this movie because I think you're supposed to have some sort of empathy for the characters, but the dialogue changes those feelings pretty quickly.

From what I remember, the movie plays out as expected for adult women. It's a contrived tear-jerker, but I think it worked.

Definitely not a movie to see unless you enjoy family dramas that try and make you cry a lot. Characters are unnecessarily mean to one another throughout the most part of the movie until they finally make peace due to one reason or another. Nowhere near a must see.

Pure fucking sap; unleaded, undiluted, retch-inducing. If you boiled this movie in a flat pan at high pressure for several hours you could then pour it on your pancakes for a delicious breakfast.

Aside from the overwrought emotional manipulation, & posiblility for difficult choices in conflict, there just isn't much here to maintain attention or interest. Somehow i never really care about the characters, which means their suffering is just sort of gratuitous.

Not a bad movie. A sappy and sentimental work that stands a bit above mediocrity, mostly because of the performances by the three females. They really makes their characters memorable. If only they weren't so static. Susan Sarandon was definitely the best part.

The script here naturally picks up steam as it goes along, with its refreshingly realistic storyline that discards the typical rising conflict to happy ending type of thread for an up and down one that resolves conflicts only to bring new ones in after. Roberts and Sarandon are both excellent in their roles, and the kids are enjoyable as well in this heartfelt divorce/step-parent drama that manages to avoid getting sappy or melodramatic, thanks to its authentic storytelling.
