Byrne and Arquette are likeable enough, and Pryce is always decent. However, despite some nice visuals and a few interesting moments, this is just a bit of a muddle; it doesn't really work as either a conspiracy thriller or a horror. Forgettable.

I watched this as some sort of summer date movie. That particular relationship also went in a similar direction.

An entertaining film that is not so true to life, but that's just fine. The lead actors do a really good job with their roles and the effects are fine. There are quite a few dark scenes, which works well for the material. I think if they had pushed the envelope a little more it would have been even better.

Not great. I love this sorta gothic biblical dark thriller shit, but this isn't a very good example of that genre. Most movies trying to be aren't good examples of the genre. *shrug*

It has a lot of potential and takes on difficult and important subject of the role of the church in Christian religion. Sadly, although It starts great, as an easy-to-watch mystery film raising grave questions, the ending is tasteless and ruins the balanced approach by turning into sensational anti-clerical conspiracy - theoretical pamphlet.

Gabriel Byrne makes a good priest and he doesn't try to have relations with the girl. But in the end it's just another "Catholic Church is bad and he's some made up stuff why" movie. Nothing entertaining here at all.

Good for the first few times, but not good for multi-viewing. This movie is pretty up-front and there's nothing hidden here. One or two watches will have you all set and ready to move on to the next cheesey horror/thriller.

It tries to deliver a strong message against the Catholic church, but due to going for flash over substance, STIGMATA is just a whole lot of "sound and fury, signifying nothing". The only religious inspiration will come from viewers who say to themselves, "Thank God it's over".

A very intriguing film about the message of god and the many forms through which it can be delivered. The accounts of the stigmata in the film follow very accurate descriptions from real life victims making it a terrifying film to take in, however it really doesn't run very deep.

Well, sure it's pretty enough to draw the goth crowd, and not creepy enough to satisfy anyone so what's the point? I had no empathy for the characters so i really don't care about the stigmata. Maybe if everyone in the movie was attacks it would have been more interesting.

Awesome plot. I loved it. I am not religious, but this type of thing intrigues me quite a bit. While the budget could have been a bit bigger to pull out the stops on something like this, for the most part it turned out all right. Not very big-name or show-stopping, but all right.

Guys, this movie is amazing and you need to stop trashing it. Of course, if you go into it expecting a (semi) serious religious drama like 'The Exorcist', 'The Devils', 'Rosemary's Baby's, or even say 'The Omen', it'll disappoint you, but it's an awesome stream of music-video imagery and overblown (questionable) 90s style. Recommended for fans of Paul W.S. Anderson, Simon West, Tony Scott, and Michael Bay. Plotbabbys beware.

I feel like I've seen Gabriel Byrne fight this fight before, and from a variety of different positions... One of those odd supernatural thrillers that tries to have it both ways and fails on all counts - this either needed to be sillier and more lurid, or more sensible and contained to have any hope of working; as it is, it's a goofy, self-serious slog which only remains watchable due to reliably solid work from Arquette and Byrne.
