There are some cool songs on the soundtrack and a couple nice dance moves once in a while, but the plot and acting are just brutal. Rize is much better if you want to see black people battle-dancing on stage.

A gayer version of Drumline. Although Drumline had Nick Cannon, so maybe that was gayer...

Purely in response to Georgia's review, I must reiterate how much better this movie is that You Got Served, if only for the replacement of Omarion with someone at least somewhat interesting. It's cookie-cutter, yes, but not quite EMBARRASSING...

It's not exactly a complete failure as there are some legitmately good dance sequences. But after all is said and done this would have made a better music video than a feature-length movie. The acting is lame and the story is way too serious for a movie with this subject matter. It's just a severely flawed movie that pretty much delivers on the one thing that would really make anyone want to see it.

The only reason this movie is ranked so high at 15 is because of the dance sequences. The moments in between the dance numbers were neither moving or convincing. I can't tell if it was the acting or the the script, but the conversations were painful to say the least.

Somehow I managed to enjoy the movie and the performance of lead Columbus Short, and maybe all of this seems to work only in contrast to another dance movie that found success and furthered the production of this one-- You Got Served. "Stomp the Yard" is far better in comparison, but still just kid games.

Hell yea, I totally watched this on TV, and was flabbergasted the whole way through. First off, the plot is negligible. Predictable and uninteresting. As for the dancing or YARDSTOMPIN: There is the occasional move that is superimpressive, no doubt. But most of it is big burly black guys doing what amounts to cheerleading without any of the physically demanding aspects of cheerleading. Oh and they do it all with snarling dead serious expressions like its a goddamn gang war. Ridiculous.

You Got Served, except F-listers B2K have been replaced by leads who can actually act (sort of). That change nets this flick a whole 5 points over its predecessor, because other than that, it's equally terrible. "Welcome to Truth University, where everybody stomps the yard. Do you step?" "I used to step, back when I had a brother. Now every time I stomp the yard, someone dies." I'm not joking, either. The movie beats the Dead Brother drum over and over, to hilarious effect. Theta-theta! THETA!!
