A confused 'comedy' with an overpaid Moore giving a strangely earnest (i.e. tone deaf) performance as a single mother forced to strip for a living. Whether A.Bergman asked her to play it straight because she has no talent for comedy is anyone's guess, but she is incongruous with her farcical surroundings, which seriously dampens the humour. Her strip scenes aren't titillating because her body is too sculptured and she moves like a man. Only Reynolds as a sleazy polly provides any real laughs.

The weirdest thing about this film is that it really wants to be a family comedy. It's cartoony with no sense of danger, the sleezyness of it is almost funny. On the subject of tits, Demi Moore is absolutely not attractive with no grace and no poise. She has weird legs and she moves with a painful self-aware "i am remembering what the choreographer told me.. one two three four turn two three" stiffness on the stage during the few strips that she does.

Scattershot comedy is an ungainly mishmash of ideas, tone and characters; clearly modeled on GET SHORTY, but lacking momentum required and stutters badly as the focus wildly shifts over too many characters hogging the spotlight. Having said that, with the fine array of talent on display, it's never boring, with Moore a solid, perhaps too sincere anchor, and Reynolds having a fine ol' time as a hilariously sleazy congressman. It's a shame the finer elements couldn't coalesce into a greater whole.

An entertaining novel with all the life drained out of it. Carl Hiaasen's books are full of satire and crackle, but you'd never know it here. Only Jerry Grayson and Burt Reynolds could be from his world (Reynolds in a yarmulke is almost worth sitting through this to see). Limp screenplay and even limper direction. Not quite sure why people hate this flick so much...there is SO much worse out there. Not nearly as flamboyantly awful as, say, "Show Girls"--it would be a better movie if it were.

I spent literal hours in Blockbuster when I was 11-12 staring at the VHS tape cover pictured above and fantasizing about seeing this movie. Now a quarter century later I’ve finally seen it and it’s… fucking atrocious! Holy shit! It has NO clue what it wants to be - some kind of screwball comedy? A murder mystery thriller? Just straight erotica? It tries and epically fails at each and every one. Perhaps the movie’s greatest crime is that it’s not even sexy - sterile dances with fake tits abound.

Highly impactful when it was released. It was nice to see the beautiful Demi Moore exposed. However, in retrospect she was a little old for the part. Strutting her mom body was like a shot of adrenaline at the time. Worth watching and just a bit surprising. Oh yeah, and there was a story line in there somewhere, but that was nowhere near the memorable highlights of this movie.

Striptease is a difficult film to review because the storyline is bad, almost all the characters are horrible caricatures, but Demi Moore is amazing, not only damn near erotic as a stripper, but her character is rich, her performance is Oscar-worthy. Striptease as an example of what should have been a B film with an A+ star!
