But the colonel, discouraged, took his razor and a strong momentum, he cuts his throat and fell lifeless on the ground

It's fairly doubtful that the grimness of Suicide du Colonel Henry might have inspired subsequent horror flicks a la a post-modern alternative, and so it's only really interesting to watch in the knowledge that silent film had a scene of tremendous grue even before Kirsanoff's masterful Menilmontant. In this instance, Melies at least spiced things up a bit.
