Sad people try to turn their lives into a superhero movie and mostly succeed due to delusions/hallucinations and psychopathy respectively. I loved it, but I wouldn't have if not for Ellen Page.

I would have preferred that it stuck to being the light-hearted comedy that it was advertised as. The poor acting and special effects cannot keep up with the film's morbid tone, which itself is already pretty unintentionally silly.

This is a really dark and funny super hero movie. It takes a look at how crazy of an idea it actually is to decide to become a super hero. Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page are great as the super heroes. It is nice to see Page playing a different character. Kevin Bacon also has fun playing the main bad guy. Definitely check out this disturbing but well made film.

Super has the violent elements that the film adaptation of Kick Ass lacked (this is a good thing), but the comedy portion of this dark comedy falls flat by being much further on the stupid end of the spectrum. Kevin Bacon looked like a natural in the sleazy villain role, but more often than not I found Page's character annoying. I probably would've given the film a much lower score because of it's mediocrity, but the last 15 or so minutes are excellent enough to bump it up

Another in the recent trend of "realistic" superhero movies. I thought it worked for the most part, besides Ellen Page's character who I thought was a bit too out there. It was ultra-violent and is a very dark comedy. It won't be for everyone, but I think it achieved what it set out to.

The gritty cheapness really separates this movie from the pack of 'real superhero' movies of the last few years. The violence was horrible and too realistic, which somehow made it really funny. It was nice to see slapstick fucked with like that. I liked Ellen Page too, which isn't something I've ever typed in my life. She was such a caustic little weirdo here, almost like a girl version of Tanner from Bad News Bears. Rainn Wilson also did a great job of bringing the pathetic. Loved it.

I enjoyed Kick-Ass more than this. I don't know, it sometimes worked for me and other times it didn't. The dark comedy didn't really succeed, but when it stopped and showed how disturbing the violence of a superhero could be, then it worked. Always like Ellen Page (and not just because I'm from NS ;)), but this movie went from an 80, to a 40, back to an 80, and I'm settling on 65 because it mostly is a good movie.

Very weird movie. Mainstream superhero movies are extremely popular these days. The problem is that making an "original" unconventional, non-mainstream superhero movie is not as original as it sounds. Kickass was a bigger studio release, but there's also Special with Michael Rapaport & Defendor with Woody Harrelson. So, where does that leave Super? Interesting enough. Violent. Trippy. Sometimes funny. Overall inconsistent.

Don't know if I've actually seen more mixed reviews on a movie, and its pretty clear why that is. There is something off and disturbing about the humor and the film itself. While it did work for me, it was close to breaking that and being terrible. While I've seen many people characterize it as shallow, I do have to say that the brutality of the ending, especially with our beloved Bolty, makes us question the humor in the violence and pipe-wrenching of peoples faces. Just a weird but ok film.

This is just about the perfect movie for me. I enjoyed every bit of it. Its so light and stupid and then it gets dark, really dark. it fits all my dreams for how a movie about real world superheroes should be. flaws and all. the fact that this movie got made just astonishes me, you'd figure somewhere along the way it wouldve got tied up and changed for the worse, but it was as good as it could be.

This film is fucking weird, and I don't know whether or not to recommend it. First of all, Ellen Page is a total ham, but I'm not sure if that's good or bad. The violence definitely turned me off, but I'm not sure if it was supposed to. Liv Tyler definitely wasn't worth fighting for, but I'm not sure if the movie recognizes that or not. But at least the film is unique. Kick-Ass tried this format and failed. Super isn't required viewing at all, but it's a weird, unique little movie.

Unlike Kick-Ass, which was more comic-like but flat and unentertaining, Super looked and felt more like an indie comedy although it was based on the same comic book idea. It edged on noir during some of its more violent moments, adding to the emotional range. On the whole, not great but entertaining. It has its moments and a few laughs, which owe to decent writing and good comedic timing by the cast. (Including Ellen Page. I like her when she's over-the-top like she is in this.)

Kinda weird, kinda funny (I mean, Ellen Page :D), kinda cheap at times...but the ending...I don't know...tied it all together...or did it? :D
It was so strange, because the ending tried to convince me I had been watching a different movie than I originally thought, but it didn't really convince me. Still it felt totally honest. I don't know, weird. :)

There's been a lot of movies lately that deconstruct the idea of ordinary people becoming superheroes - Kick-Ass, Defendor... Super is even more realistic and dark, with Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page dressing up as superheroes to fight crime by any means necessary - especially slimy Kevin Bacon. Starts out as pure oddball comedy, but soon becomes obvious that they're not the sort of people who are cut out to be heroes and things get... ugly.Brilliant little low-budget anticomedy.

After Defendor and Kickass last year, I wasn't to excited about this one but it is a good combination of the two... the mental illness and disturbing aspects of Defendor, with the broader comedy elements from Kickass. These three make a great trilogy.

How you will think of this movie depends on entirely how you understand the ending. If you think that what Frank tells is real than this movie will probably suck for you, but on the other hand when you see the epilogue as Franks delusion than Super becomes something else. Super is subtle in letting you now that Franks ending is anything but happy. it's a movie with a white rabbit where the rabbit is not white on the screen :)

This is a movie that makes you laugh at realistic violence and then tries to examine what's so appealing about it. Wilson does a great job playing an unstable man that's goofy at first but becomes increasingly off putting. He manages to be the good guy, but a good guy with profound psychosis that makes us question exactly what a good guy is. Cartoony characters that suffer real consequences. Overall, watch if you're willing to examine it and can stomach some jarring moments and harsh violence.

Wilson and Page play a pair of downtrodden losers who decide to become costumed crimefighters. While it's funny watching Wilson say "Shut up, crime" and bash someone in the chops with a pipe wrench, as the film progresses it becomes clear that both of them are desperate psychopaths. It gets less funny, then kinda heartbreaking. A good movie and probably the closest to what would happen to a real costumed vigilante, but it could have been great if it had ended when the screen faded to red.

Out of the five recent "superhero with no powers" movies, "Super" is probably my favorite. The comparisons to "Kick Ass" are inevitable but unjustified, "Super" has enough original elements to be remembered as its own (and superior) film. The characters, despite the things they do, are more relatable and charismatic and Kevin Bacon is a much better villain. "Kick Ass" is more entertaining for pure action, but "Super" has a girl raping a guy and that's just neat. "Shut up, Crime!"

There's more to Super than what is immediately apparent, and if you don't understand that, you definitely won't fully enjoy it. The seamless blend of psychological drama and superhero conventions taken to the extreme works brilliantly, particularly leading up to and including the exhilarating, hard-hitting and thought-provoking end - which simultaneously makes your heart race with excitement and your hairs stand up on your back in something resembling disgust. Bacon, Wilson and Page are stellar.

It’s very hard not to compare this to Kick-Ass (2010), with its similar plot of an ordinary guy deciding to become a superhero. I think this one is different enough, but I’ll say straight out that it’s not as good. It has a bunch of cool actors. I loved the cameo from Nathan Fillion especially. It was quite violent and gory sometimes and very similar to James Gunn’s previous film, Slither (2006). Pretty funny at times, I found it to be an entertaining movie.

Super is evil: It leads you down two very different paths at the same time. You may find yourself cheering on the protagonist as he dishes out merciless vigilante justice. Only to be disgusted or saddened seconds later when you realize the true cost of these actions.
In essence, Super takes the idea of a superhero more serious than most straight superhero movies – in the guise of a comedy. A Deeper and more rewarding picture than you might expect. And quite funny...at times.

A kind of wild dark comedy/parody on the superhero genre. It trades some plot sensibility and polish to kind of push the bounds, and it succeeds in being a funny movie (if your mind is a little disturbed), although it's not fantastic about building up a world. The lead characters are fantastic, everyone else's character is kind of meh.

It's rare that I say this but this would have benefited from being about 20 minutes longer.

What a waste of a cast. Disturbing and depressing and not in a good way. This film has no idea what it is and as a result the mood whiplash will cut you in half. If this is an examination of the psyche of real life super-heroes, then stick to it. Lalala title sequences should not segway into a guy distraught over his wife. Also, 40 minutes to put the suit on? For crying out loud. Also, whoever they got to say "Far better than Kick-Ass" on the poster, fuck you.
