Summary: Two co-dependent high school seniors (Hill and Cera) are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry. (IMDB)
An enjoyable comedy by a duo that have worn out their welcome. The success of Superbad has more to do with the writing and secondary roles rather than the leads.
I have yet to be very impressed by anything from Apatow and his crew. Even "Freaks & Geeks" wasn't that great. I do LIKE his stuff, though. He has a knack for dialogue that's clever without sounding too forced or contrived, and he creates characters that transcend the usual stereotypes. But I'm not blown away by anything here, or doubled over with laughter. It was amusing, and reasonably genuine, but I probably wouldn't watch it again. Jonah Hill was the highlight.
This is one of the funniest films of '07. The new wave of Apatow-Rogen sex comedies are refreshing in their ability to strike so many correct notes. The only jokes that seem to get little attention are the ones used in the trailers. This movie, along with Apatow and Rogen's other works, has hysterical and silly moments, but also humane and realistic moments. As a sidenote, I had trouble just breathing at one point in this film, which is always a great sign.
This movie is absolutely hilarious. I'd always see the trailers and think it would be one of the stupidest movies ever but it is actually a really good film. There is good drama, and fresh jokes. I was almost laughing throughout the entire movie. Michael Cera is the best. He is the king of being awkward. The Rogen and Apatow crew are on a roll, and I hope it stays that way for a long time.
Filled with some great exchanges the dialog is memorable and rings true. A group of socially inept/retarded teens try to drink and have sex. Filled with extremely awkward humor, dick jokes, idiotic behavior and general juvenile humor it manages to be funny, even if you sometimes must look away. Genre wise, it's like an extreme version of "Old school".
