There are some missteps. The over-reliance on goofy freeze-frames and stills gets old fast, and there's some superfluous bits. The "Rhythm of Life" routine is a wholly unnecessary diversion, and quite stupid as well. Some of the gags aren't very funny, and I'd say Maclaine, for all her charm and vitality, doesn't sing very well. But the choreography is absolutely magnificent, and the movie bursts with splendid color and set design. Even as an adaptation of Cabiria, it's not half bad.

Loathsome in every way. Shirley MacLaine is as annoying as hell, the attempts at humour make you want to shoot yourself and the musical numbers...just...no...no, no, no, no, NO!!! The musical numbers are laughable at best. And those sorry attempts at drama make you lose hope in the human race - they truly, truly do. Oh, and there's two and a half hours of this garbage. Two and a half hours that would be better spent beating your head against the wall or burning money - anything but this...
