Doesn't take itself too seriously and has some great action sequences.

The plot is simple fare about the originator of a new kung fu style. It's also well-paced and has several moments of welcome humor. However, the meat of the film, why it's rightly considered a classic, is the gorgeous, inventive choreography. The fights are beautiful, having impressive speed through under-cranking while still retaining the sensation of the blows. The fights occur in crazy places and circumstances, filmed perfectly. Definitely one of Yuen Woo-Ping's best efforts.

Best action scenes in Hong Kong cinema, which means best anywhere in the world. Also very focused story in which everything that happens comes out of who the characters are. First rate.

Pretty decent kung fu movie.

Above average kung fu flick. My only complaint is that the film doesn't spend enough time on Jet Li's Tai Chi abilities, which are fantastic.

Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh are fantastic together.

Damn the American cut, but the original versioon (Tai-Chi Master) is really qutiie good.
