Summary: A mariner survives an attack from the dreaded pirates of the Black Freighter, but his struggle to return home to warn it has a horrific cost. (imdb)
I really hope this is attached to the main storyline in the directors cut of Watchman. Without the scenes involving the newstand folk we don't feel the punch of the movies ending.
I've never really followed any Watchmen comics but this animation was done in very good quality. I liked the style and output. Voice acting was okay, though the choise of voice over made it look like a comic story. But in the end that worked fine too.
The only thing worse on that short one is that it make appetite for more.Itīs only a quicky that endīs too fast.very gory extremly dark and mournful.Butlerīs deep voice fits excellent. More stuff like this please.
Faithfulness to the original story, narrative accompanied by great depiction of extreme horror and superb voice acting. Grotesque, stunning and absolutely beautiful... It is a pity, it could have been undoubtedly a full-length instead.
Although it's got good production qualities and is a faithful adaptation, when you separate it completely from the Watchmen plot (which it clearly parallels when reading in comic form), it is merely just an overly bleak and gory exercise in futility. I hear it's inserted in the Director's Cut of the film, but I suppose you'd have to love the film as much as the comic in order to appreciate it.
I saw this as within the Watchmen Ultimate Edition so my score is based off that. It's pretty much entirely fantastic, but it loses some credibility with me at the end. Plot resolutions/conflicts based on extremely simple misunderstandings are not my cup of tea. Up until that point, incredible though.
Blown opportunity, failing to capture the pulpy feel of the comic. Instead what we get is unremarkable and by the numbers. That it looks like any other modern animation misses the fun of it entirely.
