A clever idea for a film. tracing the answers to the same two questions from different people in 1980. The film move chronologically, from youngest to oldest, and we get a sense of the impact of age and experience on answers. Narrow and straightforward at the beginning, broadened and complex in the middle, and then narrowing again at the end. Also, in the years leading up to the fall of communism, the cry for freedom can be heard throughout the film in a variety of ways.

Nice to see the filmmaker in collecting stage. He's listening before he started to talk.

A broad range of Polish citizens are filmed, by increasing age, answering the questions "who are you?" and "what do you want?". It's a fairly novel concept, and the responses are interesting. It's notable that almost everyone speaks on a very high-minded, philosophical level, but then one must assume that Kieslowski cherry-picked the best ones.

Intriguing and insightful, but also funny... mainly because many of these people are so clueless. Thanks to how easy it is to see short films now thanks to the Internet, this is going to be fodder for 314,097,266 Polish jokes. Mark my words
