The fantastic animation and hummable tunes help elevate the formulaic story and underdeveloped characters. The Disney Renaissance was running out of gas at this point.

(2014-15 Disneython #31:) Strongly reminiscent of The Jungle Book's fish-out-of-water-glimpses-the-water narrative and settings, albeit without any character as memorable as Baloo. Phil Collins songs, slick animation, and a cute central Tarzan/Jane romance make it damn watchable, though.

A good film with some really dazzling scenes, but I'd rate this a little higher if it wasn't for the obnoxious character voiced by Rosie O'Donnell.

The music bears this movie on it's own. Phil Collins is amazing. The plot itself is kind of shallow and mediocre, but the animation is pretty good, and the humour is always present.

Tarzan was made in the early days of Disney's downward spiral. Tarzan has a few signs of classic Disney quality, but it is clear that something is missing, and the movies are being aimed at a generation with a shorter attention span. Ugh!

Plodding and deathly dull, the film never really comes to life despite the efforts of the Disney studios. Phil Collins tunes bounce the audience through this half assed production, which includes every charicature under the sun- including, oddly. A butch gorilla and theman-ape himself with... dreadlocks. Walt, why you foresaken thee?

I was slightly disappointed by this one--some plot points seemed weak, and some things seemed rushed while others could have used more time, in my opinion. But I did like the relationship between Tarzan and Jane, and the animation is great, as usual. Overall, I didn't think it was a great movie, but it was mostly fun and had a nice message.

Surprisingly pretty good. Unlike with Brother Bear, the Phil Collins songs actually work quite well to help further the story, which is well-crafted with some compelling characters. Rosie O'Donnell's character and the elephant are a bit annoying as comic relief sidekicks go, but that's only a minor nitpick.

Cool animation, but otherwise disappointing. Why do the animals always have to be talking? Can't Disney just once make a movie where things that don't normally talk are talking? I suppose I should level that same criticism at Pixar, but, well... at least Pixar make good movies.

Great DIsney film. Rosie O'donnell's voice is so unmistakable though as to be irritating due to every line sounding like ROsie screaming "I'm Rosie O'Donnell and I'm doing a voice in this movie!" A must see for animators and adventure fans.

Mistakes - 1) When Clayton is drawing on the chalkboard his shotgun is leaning against it. After Tarzan takes the chalk and draws all over the chalkboard, the gun has disappeared. 2) When Tarzan says "A hair?" and Terk replies "Yeah, a hair", their hair is blowing in different directions with the same current of wind.

Tarzan brilliantly rounded off the 90's, a strong decade for Disney. Sadly 3D has swamped the animation industry and excluding Pixar, Disney hasn't made many decent 3D films since ditching 2D. However the collaboration of 2D and 3D in Tarzan works brilliantly. The 3D provides depth and scale, whilst the 2D makes this look and feel like a classic Disney film should. Tarzan caters for all ages and has the perfect balance of action, adventure, peril, humour and a stunning Phil Collins soundtrack.

Fairly good animation and art. I particularly liked the Jane character with Minnie Driver's voice. The plot was frequently silly as was the dialog and most of the animal antics. Fun to watch with many cute and funny scenes. It has a great tone and it moves along fairly well. The ending was very goofy though.

Fun, sweet animated film that has a great quality to it's animation (thanks to the combination of both 3D and 2D). The voice actors are all perfect for their characters and really add to the film. Sadly the villain feels very lackluster and disappointing and could have been more of a threat instead of just feeling like an nuisance in the first half of the film and evil in the second half

It might not be Disney's best, but it continued the trend of consecutively solid releases from Disney throughout the 1990s, beginning with Beauty and the Beast in 1991 and ending with the Emperor's New Groove in 2000. And like, most of those other films, it doesn't have anything important to say, but it succeeds in providing a passably entertaining experience with great animation.

The Movie has great visuals, the most energetic movement of the classical disney movies. Soundtracks and OST are so good. Movie can give you a chill, a smile or laugh or a tear time to time. All in one. But character roster and the interactions between those characters are cliche, boring and 1 dimensional most of the time. Conflict is not powerful enough.

It's not Disney's finest work, but it's definitely not their worst either. With memorable characters, fine voice performances, and a simple, ever-relevant theme of acceptance, as well as a very enjoyable Phil Collins soundtrack, its pluses manage to make up for its faults. Tarzan is a lovable hero, Jane is a lovable heroine, and their love story- rushed as it seems in points- is easy to root for. The villain is fairly underwhelming, but his demise makes up for that. Overall, quite worth seeing.

I HATE with passion the music phil collins made for this movie, like, so much. Besides that, the movie really isn't my cup of tea at all. Spoiler alert i guess but like, i can't understand the fact that Jane and her dad left fucking everything to go live in the jungle with Tarzan and the apes, wtf sdsjkdsd. Almost everything is so painfully bland. I would say tho that the relationship Tarzan has with Kala is the highlight of the film. Also, i dislike how fucking heterosexual it is... that's it.

This is an odd one to come late to the party to, but the fact is I missed almost all of the turn of the century Disney films and never had a reason to catch up until now. This certainly feels like an attempt to reclaim the glory of their Lion King days, and the crazy thing is they come dang close to succeeding. The heavy reliance on 3D animation hasn't aged the best; it gives the film a rubbery, phony quality that isn't pleasant to look at these days. And the plot is extremely predictable.

A pretty forgettable film, dropped right on the edge of the darker days of Disney animation, after the classics of the early 90's, and before the studio would find its footing again. It's OK, I guess, but the action is stilted, the music not nearly to the memorable level of past classics, and the film's plot feels like a Cliff's Note version of the Tarzan story, significantly watered down.

Coming off the back of Disney's more ambitious 90s efforts, this feels like a step backwards into "kiddie" oriented fare, though the animation is visually appealing and technically top-notch, with perhaps a little too much "showing-off" of Tarzan's leaping through the jungle. Surprisingly has no musical numbers, outside of one awkward shoe-horn via O'Donnell's amusing comic sidekick, but a tuneful (if too ubiquitous) soundtrack by Phil Collins compensates. Pleasant enough, but undistinguished.

The animation in this one is kinetic and still seems mostly hand-drawn before the CGI overlords took control. That said, it so obviously tries to be Jungle Book and Lion King and just clearly isn't: nothing really memorable about any of what's on the screen except Tarzan sliding down trees.
