Excellent animation in this crazy psychedelic artistic anime movie. Soundtrack is composed by british IDM legends Plaid, so the movie looks and sounds excellent. Emotionally it is a bit weak, but fans of Mind Game should definitely check it out.

Might need to watch this a few more times to really digest, but I've seen enough of them now to think of this studio as the "other" Ghibli

Beautifully crafted and emotionally wrought. This anime, with its attention to detail, is more convincing than most films with live elements. A frightening and sentimental look into a couple of brothers who are linked in some ethereal way that leaves my mind soaring.

Animated steadicam sequence? omg

Using the idea of Yin and Yang to tell the story of two young children called Black and White and how there strengths and weaknesses balance each out made this an interesting film to watch.While the plot is a little weak it's Black and White's relationship that really makes this film work.The segment where they have to be apart really drives home the ideas of the film nicely.The ending was a little to saccharine for my taste.

Cool artwork. A bit bizarre. It worked for me.

The alternate-universe Tokyo of Tekkonkinkreet is so immersive & compelling it really is a leap above most "futuristic" animes I've seen. The plot, unremarkable as it is, is nearly irrelevant, although there are a few interesting details (I like the fact that the villain's goal is to tear down the red light district to put up a kid's amusement park). The light/dark theme, as far as I can tell, is somewhat vacuous here & that's the only real disappointment.

The animation is wonderful. The story not so much: White's character and the chase scenes stand out, but the villains aren't very interesting (though I liked how the film humanised a couple of the minor ones), as much as I appreciate the oddly existential elements I'm not entirely convinced by them and I'm not quite sure what all these sometimes quite disparate scenes are meant to add up to. And the more abstract stuff at the end, which I'd normally love, I found unsatisfying here.

A surprisingly awesome film. Visually mesmerizing, but includes the cliche indecipherable-anime-mindfuck-ending. (Which I liked, and got a little too into. But it's still enough to turn people off.) I love the religious symbolism, which might be, again, so oblique as to alienate viewers. But at least the film is ballsy enough to take the plunge headfirst.

Visually stunning, ambitious and touching anime. Unfortunately the story does not succeed all the way that good. The end of the movie was in line with the story and it is fine, but the pacing was here and there sluggish.

A vibrant and original animated film that seems strangely grounded, even in the wake of flying children and crazy minotaurs that flip out and kill people. Wins award for most disturbing dream sequence ever...

Pretty but not interesting whatsoever. Also, I'm extremely tired of any sort of mob related story, it seems like a cop out these days.

When I first saw it, I couldn't do anything with it. The story nd its characters are really complex and it was difficult for me to follow the movie in Japanese with English subtitles. Now, I have watched it again with a German dubbing and I must say that a lot of things are clearer to me now. I like it more, definitely.

I loved the manga much more, so much that I didn't quite like how it was adapted.

pretty visuals, story is confusing, boring... strange film, in a bad way. Still visuals make it worth it for people interested enough in visuals alone.

Great animation, less so for the characters themselves and more for the vast, colorful city, as is to be expected by Studio 4 C. The story, while good in parts, starts to slow down towards the middle part of the movie.

Well animated, but it all pretty much falls apart at the end when it does the stereotypical anime ending of mixing metaphor, symbolism, and narrative.

Art is gorgeous but the story is...whatever.
