The enormous marketing apparatus that powers and animates the highest echelons of the music industry (emphasis on the noun rather than the adjective) expends a great deal of energy and effort to not only exploit but invent fantasy worlds. The viewer is always left wondering about the degree to which these fantasies are concocted systematically, on the basis of some kind of psycho-sociological theory, and the degree to which they simply mine popular culture and their own unconscious landscapes.

Lady Gaga is recontextualizing 70's leatherdaddy mystique and pointing it back at frat boys in the package of an attractive young woman. She's asking lots of questions and ignoring heteronormacy on purpose. Also, she makes awesome pop songs.

That song made me go out of my Gaga closet. AND it's a postmodernistic instant-classic piece.
