This film was twisted, by which I mean the entire third act has too many twists and turns that become tiresome rather than suspenseful. "Did he do it? No, he didn't do it. But what if he's the one who did it after all? How about this guy? Nah, just kidding. Or are we?" (2.5/5)

A very strong debut, showing some excellent judgement in terms of casting, music, lighting and tension. I'd pick holes in the plotting and scenario, but I don't want to.

Over directed and over acted. It's a good film, but Amenabar is too desperate too create tension with non-sensical twists, inconsistent characterizations and manipulative sound and video editing.

Tries too much to be like a conventional hollywood thriller, but in the end it's really quite a good suspense film with nice performances and clever screenplay turns.

Predictable plot points, standard thriller cliches, inverosimile characters. "Hey, it's not Hollywood so it's OK to do that!" What? No, fuck that.

Promising exposition, which unfortunately does not finish in such a fashion; the characters eventually fall into conventional, Hollywood-like roles- the exact same ones the film decries throughout. Overall, not a bad outing, but in the end, a poor execution of the more original and thought-provoking premise/subject matter of snuff.

Looks a little bit dated, but quite a suspenseful film, maybe a few too many twists and turns. There are a few central thought provoking questions.

Amenábar's successful, suspenseful, ever-moving application to become a Hollywood hack. And I'm kind of thankful when this touches down as a stupid giallo, since there are early scenes that really make you feel queasy.

Somehow, this is a lesson about Cinema, something like "What exactly you should NOT do while making a thriller."

Uninspiring thriller that uses most standard horror cliches without providing much in the way of suspense or excitement. Every plot twist can be guessed in advance. Low end of average.

Thesis is a Spanish thriller that plays out much like a Giallo horror thriller. The premise of a film student stumbling upon a real life snuff film whilst doing a thesis about violent movies is an interesting one, but perhaps the last quarter had a few too many twisty bits for its own good?

Suspense done right. For the sake of comparing, maybe not as well-directed as something Hitchcock would do, but still manages to thrill you in a related away. I didn't found the actors to be that good but the story (and how everything is slowly unfolded) makes up for it.

First hour is phenomenaly strong, then the story become little convoluted.

Morte ao Vivo estreava há 25 anos no Festival de Mar Del Plata. É muito bom, total domínio da tensão e da crítica metalinguistica, mas me irrita demais esse clichê da protagonista caindo pelo cara bonitinho e mesmo que o uso desses clichês seja para ironizá-los como em Scream, não quer dizer que fico feliz com eles. Una historia interesante, bien narrada audiovisualmente, con un lenguaje cinematográfico moderno y un excelente manejo del suspenso.

An interesting thriller that suffers from it's one-sided, clichéd depiction of the snuff culture and violent entertainment in general. Also the twists and turns are unnecessary, making the film more like conventional Hollywood.
