Fighting off the zombie apocalypse, bungee jumping, tornado chasing, jumping on sand castles and tackling crocodiles. What do these activities have in common? They are less fun and awesome than a South Korean noodle western. Whether it is the fitting kick-ass soundtrack or the action sequences where nothing more is to be desired, not a step in the wrong direction is taken. Pure adrenaline fueled adventure that while fantastic for different reasons, lives up to its namesake and then some.

Colorful, energetic, entertaining. Might be a bit long, but I enjoyed myself throughout thanks to the gorgeous visuals and (at times) awesome music. That final chase scene was just concentrated chaos and adrenaline.

Style over substance, but in a very good way. Brilliant to look at, there are flashes of true cinematic genius throughout this movie. Kang-ho Song is totally brilliant as Yoon Tae-goo (the Weird) and his two counterparts also do a good job. That said for a film that is 2 hours long, it does not use its screen time very well, and it needed to either elaborate more during its time on screen or be shorter. None the less, there are some epic scenes in the movie and it's a real visual feast.

While fun and interesting, TGTBTW cannot quite get beyond the fact that it is a messy Korean homage to spaghetti Westerns that tries to jam in star names to make some Won$$$. It's fine, but it drags and is quite boring in some parts -- which this genre never should be.

It looked like I saw a different movie than all these guys here. I found it boring and chaotic, filled with plotholes and illogical actions and situations. Fell asleep after 1,5 hour. It has great cinematograpy, but that's about it......... Saw the remaining 30 min the next day. Made me decide to lower the score more. This is just rubbish and an insult to the original westerns. Bleh, waste of time.

A genuinely fresh action movie. This is more 'Hollywood' than most Korean films, but somehow not any worse for it. The action sequences are astounding, the casting superb. It is intense, violent, funny and pretty epic, which is a fair list of accolades. If you're looking for a Western with a twist, this could be just the ticket. Highly entertaining.

An incredibly entertaining movie that has some pretty amazing action scenes and tracking shots. It did a great job mixing in humor without making it a "comedy" persay. Soundtrack was awesome, set pieces were awesome, acting by the three main characters was awesome. In fact, my only real gripe is that "The Good" wasn't nearly as fleshed out as "The Bad" and "The Weird" and his character suffered from it (only slightly).

This film has the look and feel of a manga homage to the Leone western genre translated back into film. It's wall to wall madcap action with a few stunning sequences such as the Japanese military horse chase that probably resulted in plenty of broken stuntman bones. There's also quite a few hilarious sequences and some inspired cinematography. Overall this is a fantastic big budget effort by one of S. Korea's new school directors. The story probably could have used a bit more polish though.

This film works best as unadulterated spectacle - as the two major chase sequences are some of the most fun I've had in a movie in a while. The music is also fantastic, and the film has some great production design. But entire segments of this movie either seem to have no point or drag on for ages, losing the steam of its better moments: basically, when the film stops to think about its plot (or lack thereof), it falters, which is a shame.

Kim captures much of the spirit of the spaghetti western while not feeling too much like straight homage. The action sequences are elaborately crafted, but unfortunately are often so manically edited that it becomes a hassle to watch. And we usually end up right where we started. It tends to feel like treading water at times. Also, only "Weird" seems to have more than one personality trait. Still, the film is a lot of freewheeling fun, has a few surprises, and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Occasionally fun, but a boring plot and WAAAAAAAY too long. We saw the same scenes over and over, and they were all so drawn out. We get it. That guy is "bad" and very scary! And he likes to kill! And that guy is "good", and he is a very good shot! We get it already.

Astoundingly entertaining. The action is awesome, the humor is hilarious, silly without being stupid (something I'm not sure Hollywood has got the hang of yet). Song Kang-ho steals the show, as always. It does seem to drag at times but there are enough good things to compensate.

It's a little bit of a confusing mix. It's clearly not an accurate historical take on anything, but the modern touches sometimes make it confusing to watch. Still, I like the stylized approach of the movie in general plus the music choices were really great. The highlight of the movie is Song Kang-Ho and his weird character who keeps escaping trouble at every twist and turn. While it's a bit too long, it's still a decent and funny watch.

Wonderful action sequences including a 10 minute long chase scene that is raw spectacle at its finest meets a narrative that is all over the place and an extremely weak attempt to copy Leone's masterful ending. Despite the weak narrative, the action and humour were so enjoyable that I found myself smiling, wincing and laughing a lot more than glaring furiously at the plot. It may just be spectacle but it is enjoyable spectacle.

Kim Ji-woon has really proven himself as one of the best Asian directors out there, with "Akmareul Boattda" being one of the best films of 2010 and "The Good, The Bad, The Weird" tied for best of 2008 along with "Martyrs". Just like last years Tintin, this is everything Indy 4 should have been and so much more. Sporting some fantastic all-round acting, some of the best action set-pieces I've ever seen and an amazing soundtrack, this is just more evidence that the best films do come from Asia.

Ji-woon Kim's direction was great, from the tracking shots to the jump cuts between the gazes of the main characters at the end. He takes what has been established in the western film genre and makes it his own so effectively. He also wrote a pretty fantastic screenplay alongside Min-suk Kim, even funnier than I anticipated. Although there were plenty of good performances, I don't think anyone put on a better show than Kang-ho Song (Yoon Tae-Goo).

First 2/3rds rip roaring adventure then it all falls apart. Starts really well with high voltage action 10/10 & shot perfectly - train robbery arc is epic. But 2/3rds of the way in there's an over over overly long chase sequence which as well as becoming tedious is also poorly executed. Then the obvious reference to THE western and BOY do we need Morricone & Eastwood here- the eyes amused tho! The plate reference to Fistful points out the problem - it's missing "the heart" of Leone. OK, but...

Remarkable for its set pieces and action editing - tons of great tracking shots here, especially the first and last sequences. The stylized period production design is colorful and fun, and thankfully overwhelms the murky attempt at politics. The plotting's a huge letdown, as is typical of this type of overdone SE Asian madcap comedy, and the film is unfortunately stretched to accommodate it. But the three leads play to type nicely, even if the twist is totally unnecessary and the end's a dud.

The final chase scene was probably one of the longest and most exhausting things this side of Transformers 3. But I actually don't mean that in a bad way. The action sequences (and there is loads of 'em) in this action packed Korean tribute to the classic spaghetti western are all well executed, with the ridiculously over the top 20-minute chase scene towards the end being particularly memorable. Kang-ho Song delivers a very amusing performance and the film manages to entertain throughout it's entire 130 minutes which is pretty good for a western (eastern?) which doesn't exactly break new ground plot- and character-wise.

If there's one director's fans who don't get to complain about remakes, it's Leone's. So if you always wante GBU with more action and less gritty atmosphere, this will do you fine, and while it doesn't have the poetry of some of Kim's earlier films, it's constantly entertaining and occasionally very funny.
