Good campy fun. Worth a look.

Drags a bit in the middle, but this movie is sheer campy madness.

"sapphire" meets "gozu." the good doesn't entirely outweigh the bad.

Vincent Price (over)plays a doctor seeking revenge.

Like a crazy, colorful, macabre carnival funhouse of insanity with Vincent Price as the main attraction. What could possibly be better than that?

Vincent! This is the original Law Abiding Citizen.

Good Movie

A great campy/creepy horror classic, featuring an awesome Vincent Price performance and excellent set design. Its musings upon revenge, life and death are particularly note worthy, and the film's finale two scenes are rather remarkable.

Man, this is about as good as Vincent Price's brand of camp-horror ever got. Pretty funny, gruesome stuff.

This was the film Keith Moon watched on the night he died. While I do believe that Moon deserved a better last film, 'The Abominable Dr. Phibes' isn't that bad, but not half as good as some make it out to be; Vincent Price is great (though he barely speaks), and it's occasionally fun in a campy sort of way. I do wish, as in the original script, that Phibes would be a more aggresive fellow, and I found it quite peculiar that even a rabbi couldn't follow the order of the ten plagues.

With Dr. Phibes an excellent balance was achieved in this film of elegance and lunacy. Vincent Price's most inventive role was not wasted in this excellent film with a great supporting cast, plot, script and director. If only more horror could achieve such balances.

The real conflict here is that of the Romanic Age versus Modernity. This alone makes PHIBES the greatest of all modern horror movies. Toss in the stylish modes of Robert Fuest (a director and designer of the ultra-mod AVENGERS), some terrific design, great guest stars and Vincent Price having a gas doing nothing. One of the best horror movies ever.

Although it is nothing special at all, it is impossible to overlook how influential it is, obviously inspiring the Saw series and Seven to a lesser degree.

AIP's deadpan send-up of Hammer horror flicks features a witty script, gaudy Art Deco sets, a flamboyantly florid perf by masked fright pro Price, plus the memorable tag line "Love means never having to say you're ugly."

One of Price's best. Campy good fun, this sports a rich ambiance of 1920s art deco elegance and a cleverly inventive script perfectly suited to Price's arch, tongue-in-cheek screen image.

Above average camp horror film.
