there are a couple good laughs in this one, but it's paced too slow. had wilder put some more time into the writing to make the gags more constant this would have been great, as it is it's completely understandable why this is largely forgotten.

Wilder's directoral debut is wonderfully silly, clever and surreal, with a solid adventure structure to boot. Plus, it's wildly romantic. The whole cast is terrific, but the late, great Leo McKern excels as Moriarity. Hollywood forgot how to make comedies soon after this movie was released, making this one of the last outposts of genuine spoofery.
