I liked this better when I was a teen - some of the humor is too simple, predictable etc. for an adult. But there are many beautiful images, nice little moments, and I like the music and Terry Gilliam look. As for the message - it's either a mess or beyond me. An ode to madness?

One of my fave movies, got to love a crazy man riding on a cannonball.

Even though the plot sags at times, this is a fun movie. Is an interesting predecessor to movies like The Fall and Pan's Labyrinth in that its a fantasy movie abut the roles fantasy and legends play in our daily lives.

Ambitious, extravagant fantasy in which some of the parts are better than the whole.

It's like all the silly films of the 70's and 80's combined, in a good and entertaining way. I miss these types of films which used props, instead of relying solely on cgi.

"Monty Python"''s Gilliam followed up his cult favorites _Time Bandits_ and _Brazil_ with this underrated new interpretation of this story. Wonderfully quaint special FX and a fabulous cast help make this box office disappointment worthy of rediscovery. Michele Soavi directed second unit and is credited by Gilliam as saving the film when it ran over schedule.

Megamillion-dollar epic offers consistently brilliant special effects that quickly overwhelm the viewer. Gilliam has a bountiful imagination, but little control over it.

Of the numerous screen incarnations of the mythical Baron Munchausen, it is therefore reasonable to postulate a steady decline, particularly in the important areas of innocence and charm, from the 1911 Georges Méliès one (to which Gilliam pays conscious but condescending tribute in the stage-bound opening) down through the 1961 Karel Zeman one and on, finally, to the present one. What more is this movie, really, than just another big and expensive remake?
