Griffith seemingly peaked very early on.. Great narrative techniques, allowing characters to walk in and out of scenes to weave the plot structure neatly together - and what a fun plot indeed! A girl hidden in an XXX-barrel - kidnapped by a gypsy after he was severely beaten - floating down a river.. DW would later further develop this multi-plane action level of each shot in The Lonedale Operator, a beautiful, yet flawed and somewhat stupid short (Who would ever mistake a wrench for a gun?!)

It's horribly racist, but it does a great job building tension. Of obvious historical importance.

Beware of Gypsies. They will kidnap your child.
