Summary: Ford "Mr. Rock n' Roll Detective" Fairlane is experiencing problems, and it's not with the opposite sex. One of them is that all the rock stars pay him with drum sticks, koala bears, food processors and bicycle shorts. (imdb)
Not sure why this film gets such a bum rap; I'm no fan of Dice myself, but many scenes here were flat-out hilarious. The movie is consistently insane, with zany characters and weird situations. Its plot was silly, and jokes sometimes misses the mark, but for a comedy that never takes itself seriously, these are hardly critical flaws. If you hate Dice or his comedy act, I can certainly understand, but judge the film on its own merits. Too many reviews here are about Dice the stand-up comedian.
As far as Razzie Worst Picture winners go, FORD FAIRLANE isn't really so bad; yes, Andrew Dice Clay can get pretty damn annoying at times (other times, he's fine), and the story's a total mess, but there are some laughs to be found. There's some shockingly dark and morbid humor (including a sight gag with a koala that you won't soon forget) that works decently well, and a few fun supporting performances (especially Robert Englund). It's definitely uneven, and VERY dated, but...it's watchable.
Andrew Dice Clay is about as funny as chemical castration. That being said this movie is slightly funnier than his stand up, mostly due to everyone but him.
Didn't see it when it came out, but the film now seems horribly dated. The misogyny, awful music, and fashion all add up to a devotion to 80s detritus. Feels and looks somewhat similar to Road House (not entirely a coincidence, same producers as that film), but not nearly as fun. Not to mention Andrew Dice Clay is an incorrigible ass.
One of the most wretched, mean-spirited, unfunny movies I have ever paid to see. I was so glad to see Dice's movie career come to a sudden end as a result of this. So worthless that I want to give it a score lower than 0
Not Being "PC" is funny when done by anyone other than Andrew Dice Clay. Pair him with laugh factory foreman Gilbert Gottfried... Nobel Prize for scooby snacks, baby!
