Ripper and Kelly are appropriately nasty as Burke and Hare. The film seems to go a bit soft when it comes to the character of Dr Knox. Where you might expect a stirring defense of himself for the Ideal of Science, you get little more than an admission of having been an accomplice to murder. Which would be fine, if low-key, but then there's the spectacle of his students risking life and limb to hear him lecture. It's a false not at the end.
