Honestly not that bad. It's just a mediocre sci-fi film. Twohy has some interesting concepts as a writer. The choice of casting Charlie Sheen was a pretty bad one though.

Much better than you'd expect. Sure it's really silly but it's also really awesome.

Pretty weak.

Released just before _Independence Day_ and quickly forgotten, this directorial debut for screenwriter Twohy is an impressive sci-fi paranoia thriller that holds up almost all the way through. A goateed Sheen seems initially miscast but rises above this by giving a good account of himself. Twohy builds tension nicely.

Hilariously bad acting by Ch. Sheen, cheesy story. But the pacing is done right, and it proves to be an entertainingly silly alien invasion flick. Gotta love backward-legged aliens armed with sickles chasing Sheen.

Much better than I thought it was going to be going into it. Sheen is even tolerable Still it gets bogged down in confusion.

Combining the worst from tree-hugging environmentalist sci-fi with the borderline racist notion that an evil alien invasion is under development south of the American border, The Arrival manages to be a somewhat bi-polar, but ultimately second rate sci fi thriller. There are a few well crafted set-pieces and generally a decent camera work, but at no time does the movie manage to be really suspenseful.

Both a contributor and counteraction to the nutty mentality of the New World Order sect, The Arrival is all at once simplistic, convoluted, confused, funny and engrossing as a post-North by Northwest embodiment of cinema de paranoia. Failing to capitalize on that significant trait which makes ET-themed fiction so fruitful (our innate aversion and fear of the unknown), the film settles for sloppy exposition, becoming a mess of plot holes, logical inconsistencies and Sheen theatrics.

Shit, Zane! You've been evicted!

I'm a hypocrite, I know. While I can't stand homage and overt imitation as a rule, I find David Twohy's love letter to fifties sci-fi to be painfully endearing. Just as wonderful as when I last watched it three or four years ago.

Underrated

A pretty fair sci-fi drama. {If Al Gore wants to see real golobal warming, he ought to check this one out!} The plot is pretty strong for a sci-fier and the special effects are good. Pass the popcorn please.

An entertaining thriller that, while not great, isn't terrible. While you may laugh at the concept of "aliens cause global warming" you'd be missing a major plot point of the film, the aliens simply speed it up, they don't start it. Charlie Sheen does do a good job of slowly slipping from a character a little off to completely off the deep end into pure, and justified, paranoia. With that said the special effects are really dated and it can feel like a made for tv movie. Still decent though.
