I rate this movie fairly highly mostly for sentimental reasons - I've lived half of my life as an American displaced in Japan.

Handsomely produced and well-photographed epic which is far better than its reputation. Most glaring problem is Wayne's appalling miscasting as U.S. diplomat (!) but his performance is quite amusing (if he occasionally appears ill-at-ease), the supporting cast of mostly Japanese actors acquits itself nicely, and the romance between Wayne and the geisha is nicely handled, if a little over-extended. Love the sequence with Wayne displaying mastery of magic! Very enjoyable.
